A book taglined as "Culinary Catastrophes From The World's Greatest Chefs"
Excellent and funny read on what goes on behind the scenes in the cooking world. 300 pages divided up into about 20 short chapters, each written by and detailed by a separate chef. Who can forget the layered wedding cake partially-devoured by the bride's mother's dobermans, and repaired in the garage by the pastry-chef, while the ceremony went on, using about 10 lbs of frosting? How about the two now-famous chef's back in the 1980's when they were starting out, taking gallons of soup in the back seat of a rattletrap Honda to the culinary exhibition. A near accident spilled 20 gallons of cream soup on the floorboards, which they had to scrape up and then serve immediately upon their arrival to San Francisco's convention center. The black specks? Oh thats freshly ground pepper, they lied. You knowboth of them! Beautifully written stories of the horrors of cooking for dozens, or hundreds, all carefully arranged to give you a front-row seat to the hell that is the restaurant business. If you have the guts, and the humor, then book is for you! Edited by Kimberly Witherspoon. Bloomsbury Publishing 2005.
