if a person has one rifle in a given chambering, and the ammo reloaded is intended for that rifle, is there any reason NOT to neck-size only? from what i can see, neck sizing produces more accurate ammunition and puts less stress on the case. i also seems as though the fire-formed case helps in the way of accuracy. with that in mind, is there any reason to full-length size and mess around with lubing and stressing the brass? |

eventually you'll have to fl size to get the bolt closed on a factory sporter chamber. but until then, yeah, neck size is the way i fly.

Hunting is not a matter of life or death; it is much more important than that.

I only size the neck about 2/3 of the way, as it will help keep better
alignment with the bore. Very important with cast bullets, and I
believe it is just important with jacketed, as bore and bullet sizes
vary so much.

the reasons you mention are valid for neck size only. Some rifles like autos, pumps and levers have tough time feeding neck sizing only reloads. so for hunting lots of people full length size their rounds for smoother feeding. If the chamber isn't perfect (think egg shaped) then neck sizing only is only a perfect fit IF you get the same alignment as when first fired. Personally I don't think you give up much if anything if you FL size. BEAR |

I agree with Bear, as far as stressing the brass, i mostly full length size, and have never had a head separation (knock on wood) the necks have always split first. |
