Headed out west for a few days to help a mate reduce some feral pigs.We took quite a few of the ATV's.We got a bit bored and decided to take the pigs dogs down to the lignum and run a few down.He had two big dogs and they stirred up a tusker in the scrub and being the closest  shot in and went to stick him with the knife. He threw off one dog and gave me a memory scar on my elbow before I dispatched him.I'm afraid I'm getting old and a mite slow for that sort of work.Still we had a great couple of days and culled 153 pigs for the station owner. We shared a few brews and returned to more mundane work.Have a great one macca.Pics below.

Macca,

You shooting them with an auto loader?  Hate seein critter's havin to be culled but some times you have too.  What damage were this not so little buggers churning up.  We have them here in the states, and they are becoming a big problem (at least thats what they say) with destroyin habbitat here.

They do tear things up. Some habitat can recover and some doesn't. I've seen the same thing done with deer in alfalafa fields. One place in MT the alfalfa wouldn't get over 6" high. They did a night time survey and saw hundreds of deer in the fields every night. They culled 360 of them and the crop shot right up. The deer hunting in that area is still unbelievable. The season is only two weeks long and you get up to 5 deer per person if you buy the extra tags. Sometimes too much of anything is bad.

Hi Spotshooter,Steelyeyes. The pigs chomp a lot of lambs at lambing time and just love to destroy crops and fences. They are also the biggest disesase risk in the wild in Australia as they can carry just about anything and spread it about. We have to keep them trimmed in numbers.

At the dam in the photo we were using lever action marlins in 45-70 and 30-30.Easy to stop the bike and squeeze of a couple of quicks shots. And both are good stoppers up close and in the scrub.I used to use a SLR 7.62 when I worked for the gov doing it. But keeping that licence now is too hard with all the new regs in place.I was also using a savage in 7mm mag for longer work.Have a good one macca.
