I am ordaining a local match here for boomers, that is, those rifles suitable for big and dangerous game. Thus far, about the only rule is that their bore must be .375 or larger.

The match will consist of 3 stages, thus far.

Stage 1 will be at 50 yds, 4 shots (to ensure at least 1 reload) as fast as you can shoot them and it WILL be timed.

Stage 2 will be at 100 yds, 4 shots as fast as you can shoot themand it will be timed also.

All above shots will be at the back of a standard Redfield sight in target, and all shots on the paper will count as a hit.

Stage 3 will actually consist of 4, 1 shot matches at 25 Yds, with each shot timed. This one will be for accuracy, and the target will be a 3 X 5 index card. Only hits on the card will be counted.

In all stages, the starting position will be from the low ready position, that is, stanging with the rifle held in a normal hunting position, safety on. Kind of like a sporting clays position, with a safety to deal with.

I have been thinking about this for a long while. I believe that there are a lot of these rifles that don't get a lot of use, so why not break them out and get SOME use out of them?

What do you think? Have I left anything out?...............Kingpin

King,

I've been feeling better and will try to do it.  I've got 3 boxes of 400 grain max solids for the 416 Rem.  And 2 boxes of monolith solids for the 416 Weatherby.

They should make a whole thru the paper, if I use those thin sight-in targets.

Lets make the 25 yds shooting a sitting position.  It is my favorite African position cause I can get steady and see over grass.  Shot my 44 inch buffalo from the sitting position....if you miss the frontal shot at a buff from the sitting position...it makes it easier to shit your pants as he charges.

Gee Bear, I was planning to do it with local guys from here just to see how many there were, and to see how many rifles I could buy to boot, but, then, if you want to try a postal match, sounds good to me. How about it guys, how many do we have out there in tron land??? Fill us in and we'll be off and shooting.........Kingpin

PS: We could even make a class for single shots if necessary.

Guess that rules out my .358 Winchester. I suspect it is good for any dangerous game on this continent. But, in the spirit of things, I do have my Sharps that may qualify.

If there are any cast bullet shooters here, I have just started an internet match on the new Cast Boolits board. Out old server were kind of unresponsive, shall we say, so we moved the whole shebang.

Count me out, my biggest rifle is .323. Good luck, tho, and don't forget the Ben Gay and ice packs.

King,

You should bring that down to a 35 cal so I can shoot my short barrelled 358.

I might just try it anyway for the experience.
