I have been looking around MidwayUSA and i stummbled upon these bullets. Are they any good? Can they be used for hunting sucessfully? They are hollow points, so they must expand...right? I am just looking at bullets for my thirty aught six and this one is from the Motherland. Well, it is from the Motherland as long as it is from Norway, Sweden, or Finland. Yes, Tikkabuck, i know that Tikkas are Finnish. I was just wondering about Lapua.

NH_Hunter; The Lapua Scenar is actually designed as a long-range match bullet, and nothing indicates that it is built with hunting in mind. I have sectioned a couple, since I shoot them a fair bit in competition, and the jackets look mighty thin to hold up in game well. That being said, some hunters insist on using Sierra Match bullets to hunt with, and have been reasonably successful. The Scenar would definitely not be my choice, though. I prefer hunting bullets that can be trusted to get the job done every time. Regards, Eagleye.
Never argue with an idiot. They will drag you down to their level & then beat you with experience!

Eagle eye is spot on with his call on the Scenar. It would kill as a varmit round but there are much better options out there NH.In the 30-06 what is wrong with spitzer boat tails? What game do you have in mind?Macca

I was just trying to find an interesting bullet for whitetail, boar, and elk hunting. I am thinking at the moment to maybe go with something in the 180 grain range. I may just go with my first thought of getting Hornady SST's but i wanted to see what else was out there.

for non-premium bullets, you'll have a real tough time beating hornady interlocks for accuracy and reliability...

realize, too, that flat base bullets tend to be a little tougher than boat tails - at the expense of bc, though that is likely not going to be a factor for big game hunting (so says the guy w/ nothing but boat tails for all his rifles).

stay w/ what is tried and true for your hunting...

Hunting is not a matter of life or death; it is much more important than that.

Are you familliar with the sierra 165 grain bthp game king? It is shaped like a target bullet but desigend for hunting. Never tried the 30 cal but the 160 grain 7mm shoots well in my 7mmstw. The Sierrs tech I talked to says its a litte bit tougher than the regular led tipped sierra bullets.

Maybe i would go with a BT, but i the ranges are just too close for them to have any use. The Hornady SST is considered the low end of premiums, and it is priced that way. I will probably get some Hornady Custom 150 grainers for practice and use the cases and some new bullets in handloads.
