Buds Gun Shop has some square and round butt model 10 Smith and Wesson police trade in guns for $269.00. These are 4 inchers. They had 3 inchers a few weeks ago and sold out in one day.

I just orderd one. I will post pictures when it shows up.

that IICS is the model M&P (original model not the newbie).  they were the most popular model Smith ever made; and the standard urban policeman's pistol.  Most were 6", but you will like the 4" model.  they shoot great with LC target loads.  Only down side is no adjustable sight, but for what they were designed for they are rugged and accurate enough.  A good gun, enjoy.

I also think most police guns are carried a lot but shot very little. It should make a good truck/camping/fishing gun. Some of my favorite guns shoot pretty good and I don't worry if I drop them off a hillside. I can climb down and get it dust it off and keep shooting.

S&W M10 4"bbl was my first duty gun I carried many years back.

My daughters first duty gun was a S&W M66 4"bbl, current is a Glock M21 (if that is the .45acp) and the minuature version sometimes.

Son's first duty gun was a (CRS hit just now) but his 2nd/current is a Glock M22

Those are excellent guns.  My shop received a bunch of M64s (same gun in Stainless).  But, there were altered to DA only.  I have two and they are sweeeet.

They came from J&G and the cost was about the same...w/o shipping and and-ons.

Tripped across this old thread & thought I'd throw in
my 2 cents....

I carried a Model 10 4" .38 Spl for duty for the first 15
of my career. For the second 15 we had transitioned over
to the Glock Model 22 .40 S&W.

Still love the Model 10 & shoot it quite well. Don't
actually have one anymore but do have a S&W Model 13
which is very similar only in .357 Mag. It was a police
trade in also.

I retired in Jan 2010, so I don't carry any duty hardware
anymore.

Regards, Marcus.

My brother bought one of the 4" models earlier this year.  Grerat bargain for a S&W frame.  P+ loads make it a deer hunting pistol.

Sir North;

Could you carry if you cared to?  Or, now being retired, is it verboten?

No, can no longer 'carry' a firearm without the "nearly
impossible to get" permit from the Gubmint.

I thought the federal law allows all active and retired LEOs to carry.  You might want to check it out.

Not up here in Canada.

You 'legally' carry, virtually daily, for 30 odd years in
relation to your 'duty' but once retired you can no
longer
be trusted to do so... lol...

Kinda sad, though really.....
