I am making them out of everything. I am working on jade, petrified dynosaur bone (got some T-rex), all kinds of fancy wood including petrified wood, petrified wood, desert bighorn, mammouth ivory, etc. What I don't keep for me, I'll sell or trade for guns. Whee!

I have it on good authority that mammoths and dinosaurs never existed - the bones were put there by the devil to undermine belief in the bible. That could be why the grips are hard to photograph too.

Kingpin; I have small hands, couldn't handle mammoth grips fer sure, fer sure. I'd need grips made from one-a them smaller elephants I think. Maybe the size of them what are on women's panties. I'm pretty sure this warrants investigation!

KP. I could probably make some out of women's panties, but I would need to stabilize them first. I have about 60 cut and am finishing more this week. They are turning out incredible and sales have been super. No one has the quality I have. Let's see, ivory, mammouth ivory (mammouth teeth available), desert bighorn, giraffe bone, zebra wood, desert ironwood, banyon, black ebony, striped ebony, all kinds of walnut feather, myrtle burl, tiger myrtle, spalted sycamore, spalted maple, navarra (amboyna burl) both natural and plasticized natural color and dyed, box elder burl stabilzed and dyed in multiple colors, Patagonia palamino wood, several bleached woods, Hawaiian Koa, silver vine, several African horn types, Sambar stag, and then many kinds of stone. But telling about them doesn't do them justice so photos follow tomorrow!!!!!!!!!! Edited by Peterbh |

All 1911 grips are interchangable from different manufacturers. There are the compact models, some of which use a shorter grip. The thickness is generally .250" except the Springfields are .275 and the compact Kimbers are thinner. Some guns are equipped with ambidextrous safeties and the grips are slightly truncated. The first 1911's had no 1/2" clip out of the bottom of the grip. It was added so the grips did not have to be removed to disassemble the gun. Faster in the muddy trenches. The bottom of the grips have a bevel which is usually not present when a magazine well is added. It is added to enable easier/faster clip loading into the gun. I can make grips to any of these requirements.

The second from the right is Sambar Stag. Virtually unbreakable. $200. I sold all my Mammouth ivory but have more rough coming and will send you as photo and a price when the rough arrives, KP. |
