I've been fishin the Mississippi up here in northern Minnesota the last few days. I caught 3 Suckers, 2 nice Smallmouth Bass I had to release as there season don't open until next Saturday, lost a Walleye. Then just as I was going to reel up my line my rod tip started dancing. I hit the button on my electric reel to set the hook, nothing their. There must have been a lot of slack in the line because them my rod started jerking. I hit the button again to set the hook. This time my drag started screaming. Here's what was on my line. A 7lbd. 25 inch Channel Cat. Never had a fish fight so hard before. Really put my rod to the test.
![]() A couple hours earlier my dad tide into his only fish of the week. It made 3 or 4 drag screaming runs. A 9 1/2lbs 32 inch Northern. ![]() That was fun. No we're gonna gear up for cats and see if we can get more. Bill |

Bill, Nice catch! I grew up about 4 miles, as the crow flies, from the Mississippi River about 250 miles downstream from you. Caught a few of those myself. Mississippi River cats about an hour out of the water cornmeal battered and deep fried in hot lard. Accompanied by potato salad, sweet corn on the cob, home made whole wheat bread, lemonade and a peach pie. Boy, my mother could cook and catfish was a favorite around our house. Thanks for the memories. RD
