ELMER AND JACK STORIES - PART 2
Elmer Keith and Jack O'Connor had their differences but got along better than most people thought they did.
As Jack once told me: "If I'm having trouble coming up with a column, all I have to do is pull Elmer's chain. By the time we get done, we both got several columns and some more pay checks."
Truth is both men liked fast and accurate bullets. Elmer just liked bigger and harder bullets, as a rule, than Jack thought were necessary.
Example: If you read both men, you will see that Jack does not shoot through nearly as many big game animals as Elmer does. Also, Elmer shoots more animals standing off hand than Jack who usually, when he can, gets into some sort of rifle rest or support position.
Different styles and preferences lead to different results.
I've copied what I think is the best from both men.
When it comes to handguns, I lean toward Elmer.
When it come to rifles, I lean toward Jack.
Both were great men and teachers.
