Nope. And you don't want one. They are not a good thing with cast. There is a reason, none are available!

well then, that answers my question. i am guessing that gas checks have something to do with it?

i was thinking that it might be beneficial in retained velocity/energy, and also with seating the boolit. sounds like it might be a waste of time, though and a neck-expander would serve me better.

You want a perfectly flat base on the bullet. Boat tails, do funny things to pressure, bullet slump, other oddities that don't work out right. Avoid any rebated heels, as  these generally show the same problems, although to a lessor  degree.
Most of my dies have neck expanders with them, so flairing is no problem. The dies without one, I take my toolman, open up the needle nose pliers, and give a light twist to the mouth. You don't need too much.

lee -

i was thinking of .30 cal for my .30/30, but after reading comments here plus doing some reading of lyman and lee manuals, decided it might be a bad idea.

Tas, if you wanna try some cast for your 30-30 I will send you some lubed with gas checks ready to load so you can play with them some, I always like to see someone get into cast boolits, they can be frustrating and very very satisfying.

rick -

i'd like to take you up on that. a few folks sent some to me years ago, but a bunch of doo-doo hit the fan right afterwards and we ended up moving, twice....the CBs that they sent were lost in the move.

any issues with sizing? should i slug the bore of my marlin m336?

I will send them to you sized at .309 they should shoot ok if they dont then you might want to slug your bore, I have Lyman 31141 that is a flat point 176gr boolit and also a Lyman 311291 about the same weight that is a round nose, also a Lee 120gr soupcan (roundnose) thats a lot of fun to play with. I have the best results with the 31141. take your pick.

since we both have marlins and you've had best luck with 31141, it sounds like that would be a winner! thanks, rick!
