Hey guys, do any of you hunt with your handguns? If so, what do you hunt, and what handgun do you use? As soon as i get that ruger blackhawk shotgun fixed, then i will probably hunt with that in the thick stuff. A handgun is just soo much easier to handle in the thick brush than a rifle.

I've shot around six white tails with pistol, and four antelope. All have either been with a Ruger Redhawk, or a S&W M29, both in .44 Magnum. I've shot coyotes with cap and ball revolvers, many small varmints with .22, and .30 carbine.

Nice deer, congratulations.

i hunt with handguns.  Favorite is the T/C contender, I've got 4 barrels.  But I like the 375 winchester for deer and boar.  30 Herret works good for groundhogs, i line up two one day (60 yards and 95 yards), one shot two dead hogs!  fun.

NH,

If you find one of those Ruger Redhawks in 41 mag at the Ruger special discount store, I'd grab it.  a fine revolver in a nice caliber, my brother has one i've been trying to pry his hands off for years.

Nh - Keep in mind it takes LOTS of practice to be competent enough to take the life of a deer cleanly. Also, pistols, although more convienient to handle in close areas, are also therefor more dangerous. I'd suggest trying to find some professional training. Most guys assume they now how to shoot a pistol. I did too, until I went through a combat course with an FBI instructor. I learned a lot, and had been pulling the trigger on hand guns for twenty years plus at that time. There are definitely tricks to the trade.

I handgun hunt for the fun of it.  Have killed one whitetail doe but that's it.  Most of the time I don't even break out the handcannon, a S&W 29 in 44 mag (nice choice Waksupi!) until I've done most of my serious hunting with rifle or bow.

Was thinking about going after wild boar with it, or maybe with a BP rifle.  I've killed them with rifle and bow so it's time to try something different.

I do lots of small game hunting.(blue grouse, rabbits, prairie dogs) When hunting them I used my ruger blackhawk in 45LC. I just got a new Taurus tracker in 45LC that I intend to do a lot of hunting with. I intend to try to tag a couple of antelope with it this fall.I also picked up a cap and ball revolver I want to pot shoot some bunnies with this fall. Best shot so far was a 65 yard headshot on a prone prairie dog with my blackhawk.
(90% luck, but don't tell my spotter.)
