Well ding dong dang.
I have been looking for months for Barnes 200 gr 8mm bullets. And as you know No such thing anymore.
BUT as I was looking I would always find 8mm 220 Sierras. I have a load for them that now that we stretched them as far as we can and still feed that shoots very well. Both the Barnes and sierra shoot easy sub MOA at 100 yards and one inch at 200.
But at 500 yards there is an advantage to the Barnes in drop and grouping and even energy is higher out there do to the extra speed of the 200 vs 220.

SOOO

I have been looking for and using the Barnes even at twice the price.
But now I can't get them, I had a plan to just change over to the 220's.
Yup NOW there all gone with no backorders and no idea when they will come in.

Rats its a bird in the hand thing I dropped the bird in my hand to catch the other and now neither.
I have some 200 Nosler's but at the speeds I'm shooting that will not group anywhere close to the other two. I have at least 100 of each loaded but...
If I go out and practice at 500 plus I could shoot half that.

Well today I was looking at 338's lots of them.
What do you think of a 338x8mm rem mag?
It looks like it is the same as a 340 WB.
The 8mm rem mag case is a tad bigger then the parent case the 375 H&H.Confused

re 338.
I got two of them 338 win mag.  both are shooters.  and i've killed bear, deer, wort hogs, kudu, caribou etc with them.  I thin the 222, the 308, and the 338 are inherently accurate  cartridges with good powder to bore ratios.

i load for the 338 win mag and for the 340 weatherby mag.  both eat lots of IMR 4064 or Imr 4831.

Working with a friend the last 2 weeks, he got a 338 win mag for brown bear hunt first week of june.  He is more of a hunter than a shooter, and thought his o6 was a 'kicker',

4 secessions with the 338 from a bench today, he shot his first 1.5 inch group @200 yards.  we have 3 more weeks of practice lined up.  I loading the max of 4831 behind the Hornady 225 Interlock.  tough to get bullets for 338, but I had 200+ collectting dust on my bench.  I think the 225 is a good compromise for brown bear.  The Interlock has been my go to bullet for the 334/340.

Seems to be lots of 338 Ultra mag shells on the dealers shelves right now.  if i wanted something bigger than the 338 win, I'd get and Ultra mag.  But I think the 338 win is all I'd need.

just thoughts

YUP.
Both are 375 cases
Ruger or H&H
We have been making 8mm rem mag out of 375 H&H there easer to find and a bit cheaper if you stay away from Norma.
