I've been collecting empty cartridge boxes for 30+ years. When I started people were almost giving them away. Anything over $2 was too much for me. This last week after years of procrastination I'm finally working on a display for them. I boxed in a wall in my gun room that is 10' x 7'. Solid boxes. I have enough for a much bigger space but I was trying to fill it with stuff from 1870-1975 or so. It looks like I'll be short of older boxes by about 5-10% of the space. Thinking that I could fill the gaps with some cheap stuff off of ebay I came across this one. I can't seem to link it but please check it out. Auction # 300289417810 or search Forehand & Wadsworth. Then go to Gunbroker and find the gun pictured by the same search or auction 121673745. If anybody can help me link them that would be nice.

Well I like boxes but not that much. Something about this seems slightly askew?

I can't wait to post pics of my wall of wonder, should be done today or tomorrow. I'm looking for a .219 Donaldson Wasp box if anyone has one.

Morning DEADDOG  >>  No doubt, the seller sure is proud of that box.  Collectible pricing is funny.  I've dealt sports memborabilia on eBay for a long, long time.  All ya need is two people interested in the same thing and prices can get really crazy.

On that old, rare stuff, 90% of it's estimated value rests on the quality or condition of the product.  If this is the best specimen of a particularly rare piece, value could indeed be high.  In the sports sector, a card from that era in good to very good condition may command values in the thousands.  I'm just not familiar with this particular line of collectible to know if the pricing is consistent or blown out of wack.  Take care.  >>  klallen

It's just hard to swallow that a empty box with a picture of a gun on it is worth 5x what the pictured gun is worth.

It's not the owner, the box started out at $9.99 now ~$660 the gun is $199.

Hey Al, I'll trade you a 12 pack of Leinies and $3.36 for both boxes. HUrry, if you wait too long it'll be a 10 pack. RD

Well MrM, some people have box collections and some have beer can collections. I've seen the lake over in Chippewa Falls they get the water from to make that beer and just like your box the cans worth more empty.

I looked and I don't have one exactly like yours. What do you want for it? Years ago i went through a box like that trying to shoot them and not a one went off. Any primer over 70 years old has a hard time making a spark.

The above pic is  a close up of the middle of the previous pic three rows down from the top. If you notice the Winchester sivertip box with the mean bear up on two feet is in 30 Rem. Not my first choice round for a charging bear. The .300 WBY for the tiger is maybe a better match? Hard to read but my oldest paper box is just above the bear in the upper left dated 1874, not a patent date.

I think you're right RD $1800 for a empty box is nothing if you can afford to spend over 300K on a phone number.
