Eddy,

I've noticed the dog's here don't like nothing high picthed call's.  I've got a dan thompson PC, and a tweety.  Can you recommend any others that are higher pitched distress calls?

All,

Which are good Cigar's?  I quit smokin a while ago, an really never tried cigar's although I did have a pipe fer a while.  Anyhow, what cigar makes a good smoke fer the woods.  I need somethin to chew on / or smoke to help the time go by after shootin my game.

Go to the Thompson Cigar web page. Find the Cuban Rounds or Coronas, Maduro wrap. They're about $42 for a box delivered, and are a good one.

I've always been kinda partial to the Critter Call Pee Wee, by adjusting the rubber band and playing with the reed a little, you can produce some VERY high pitched sounds, as always, the more intense and exciteable you can sound the better. As far as Cigars go, I prefer the Macanudo Prince Philip, its a big bugger, real mild and lasts a very long time, I also like the Victor Sinclair smokes as they draw real easy. I smoke in between stands and must carry a heavy aroma with me out on stands, but i've found that as long as i'm paying VERY close attention to the down-wind side, and elevate myself somewhat, i kill em way before they wind me. last friday i called in 12 dogs and killed 10 of em, and I was chain smokin Swisher Sweet Perfecto's all day long, of the two that got away, I missed 1 and wasnt paying close enough attention to the Down Wind side on the other, he snuck out on me to about 500 yds and sat and barked at me in the cover of the heavy sage, God i hate it when they do that to me, but there's no givin up my Cigars, it just all part of the hunt for me.

I think a good peyote cigar is right up your alley.

No idea why Cohibas are so pricey. I'm not that impressed with them. Any good Cuban seed cigar is generally good, and the Dominican and Honduran grown tobaccos are better to me. When I was hanging around the Carribean, I smoked alot of true Cubans, and think they are over rated.

Today I snuck up on a doe, was maybe ten to twelve yards away, and was smoking my pipe. She was downwind, in a very light breeze, and totally ignored me. She finally noticed a puff of smoke, and was alerted a bit, but only wandered off slowly, still feeding. I believe the smoke was helping to cover my scent.

On an aside, this morning I was where I wanted to hunt about half an hour before shooting light. Below me, a bull squealed. I answered back with my cow call. About ten minutes later, he responded with a full scale bugle from about 3-400 yards. I never made contact with him, but was pleasantly suprised he was still bugling after the rut. I've seen him before, and he's a big ol' hawg I'd like to bring home with me.
