stopped in at cabela's a couple days ago, and there was perhaps the ultimate north american hunting rifle sitting on the shelf... asking $950, and i know they deal, but i didn't make any attempt at finding the bottom dollar.

it was a remington model 7, stainless steel, synthetic stock (not sure what kind... felt like a ti stock, definitely not the usual plastic garbage), talley ultra-light mounts, leupold vx-3 2.5-8x36. all up weight would probably run right at 6 pounds. oh, it was chambered to 7 rsaum. can't think of a better all around rifle, and it sure would carry nice, too.

just about had to put it on layaway... figured i'd better just quit buying guns for a couple of weeks... see if i still want it then.

Dakotasin;

How far away from you is the Cabella's?  Thought the nearest one to you was down in the depths of Nebraska, but I admit I don't keep up.

    dakotasin I see a guy with the custom shop alaskan wilderness model 7 in 7mmsaum all the time. It is damn nice buy, I would rather get the laminated stock myself. Its Just a little heavier and it is more comfortable to shoot. I have one in .308 and years ago I had a stainless synthetic also in 308 and my new one is easier to shoot. The synthetic one busted more than one guys forhead ! I think the cartridge is cool but from a 22 inch barrel it will be closer to a 280 than a 7mm mag. Just my opinion, it would be a great hunting rig though I would,nt mind squeezing it into my safe, espically with a VX111, A great us made product !

yeah, there's a cabela's in mitchell now. been there a little over 2 years. i don't get there very often anymore since we moved out here to the sticks as it is about an hour's drive from me now. when i lived in mitchell, though, i was there all the time.

they have so much inventory that they have on-hand what the smaller stores can only order. great if you just want to look at something without having to commit to purchasing.
