Just wondering why a few of the members here seem to have something against the Weatherby double radius shoulder? Why? Please give reason not "just because".  Lawdog

I think the biggest problem that I have with that double radius shoulder is the price tag that goes with the WBY rifles you need to shoot it    .  Juss kidding LAWDOG.

Right up front, I've never owned a WBY cartridge.  Here's the two things that I've heard:

1.)  That double radius shoulder can be tricky to work with in the sizing die with them having more tendency to crumble inward under the pressure of sizing.  I'd think that a touch of case lube would remedy this.?.?.?  I don't know.  That would be my solution, anyway.

2.)  I've heard it said that the angled shoulder has more to offer, accuracy wise, then does the rounded, double radius thing of WBY.  Truth or fiction?  Don't know.  WBY does only offer an inch and a half guarantee with their rifles.  Does the double radius have something to do with this?  I've no idea.

Personally, I just don't like that look of a rounded corner.  Give me the conventional sharp angle shoulder and I'm comfortable    .  That said, if I could swing the $340 to get into this Winchester XTR in .270 WbyMag that's at my local shop right now, I'd do it in a heartbeat, just for the experience.  Just can't seem to come up with the $$$.  Later.  >>  klallen

Hey Lawdog, the reason why I dont like Weatherby cartridges is because:

A: they cost too damn much

B: Their name i.e. MAGNUM, i dont shoot anything magnum.

C: The rifles that they come in are usually more expensive than standard non magnum cartridges.

D: They kick so damn hard i cant even shoot them.

Now these may not be the same reasons as to why most people who dislike weatherby's cartridges have, but these suit me just fine.

I don't have anything against the double radius shoulder on Weatherbys or any other cartridge. I think in the real world pf practical applications  it has no marked advantage over any other desogn feature. Seems to be more a marketing point than anything else.
