Thanks Bear.
They seem to be out of stock everywhere I have looked but the price isn't too bad considering the prices of the originals. Wing master

For wing and others, I should have mentioned that Auto Ordance also sells new M1 carbines for $1390 list. should be some discount in there.
While original GI models are nice, and go up in value, for shooting and enjoying a NEW model would be great. AO also make 45 thompson as semi-auto. I've shot these and they are similiar to the military guns, heavy and rough finish but cool. maybe today showing up to a riot at your home with one of these would drive of the AR terrorists???? |

I think that is pretty high Bear but i'm really thinking I might need one.
I think I talked myself into it. Now I just have to find one in that price range. Wing master

I think they are over priced. LGS, pawn shop, or gun shows have them for $750 or there abouts.

Basically $1,000 and up.
Appears they only have a few dozen at this time; and they are rough.

Nice review IBD. will be interesting to see what the prices will be???
If they have 500,000 it would make ammo more available.

Well, finished my M1 Carbine project. Removed front sight to then remove bayonet stud. Painted front sight with 2 coats of gloss white nail polish; then 3 coats of gloss glow floursent orange. Looks good and should pick-up fast in woods. Got a 5 shot mag for it. this one also holds open the bolt when empty. Cleaned and polshed the bore. totally cleaned ever part, including short stroke piston. sparkle city now. Replaced all springs, slight polish to sear, then oiled. light coat of linseed oil to stock. Refilled the 'butt stock oiler'.
Loaded 200 rounds (thanks Jr) with 110 gr round nose. Hope to get to the range if wife is OK tomorrow. Need to sight it in and check groups at 50 yard (my Deer range).

All of the reasons the Airforce used to pick the ar apply to the carbine. Flat shooting isn't needed as these rifles are not made for marksmen; just scared kids thying to shoot in a direction.
And the 110 gr 30 cal is more frontal area without expnsion that 223 ever could.

I agree Bear.
I also think with less recoil from the carbine most guys could get back on target faster and shoot better than they could with a garand. Wing master

Yep, that was his weapon of choice. One of the reasons I think it was the best battle rifle ever.
I learned to shoot with a Grand fom a bunch of WW-2 vets. Later I shot comp with guys that served in Korea. 60 years later, I realized the guys that bad-rapped the M1 cabine were not combat guys; just support and REMF. Guys that thought it was Ok were combat guys. Back then power in a rifle (30-06) was formost; today with the M8 power isn't thought to have value. The M1 carbine caried light, ammo was light. And in the M-2 configuration was full auto, maybe like a squad sub machine gun today. That same bad rap from 65 years ago, is often repeated. 'no good for deer', too weak. One often repeated issue was it has only a 200 yard range. I serioussly doubt many enemy were ever hit beyond 200 yards by an aimed Garand or other weapon short of a Ma-duce. I wonder.

I just got done reading "To Hell and Back," Audie Murphy's story of WWII...about 3 days ago. There are 2 guns that he, personally talks about shooting...a Ma Deuce and a "Carbine." When the "Krauts" got spooked, and jumped up and ran, he used the "Carbine." When he was pinned down and had to shoot his way out...the C. And, when he spotted somebody, he would aim in, and when the head showed....it was the "Carbine." that he used. Towards the end, his old company was spooked and wouldn't move...he went back to the front w/a jeep, and am mounted 50 cal, cases of grenades and a...guess what?

Actually, I signed up both my brothers and bought 3, one for each of us. older bro' converted his to 'straight pull mode' so it was legal to hunt with. His son-in law (drugee) broke in and stole it. Figure someone thinks they have an auto and will be surprised in a hold-up some day.

For the condition these sound like they are in they don't seem overpriced too bad.
I'd rather buy one for the price Bear bought his. Wing master
