I am getting excited.

Deer and Antelope season opens Monday. I have ammo loaded (last minute) and camping gear ready to load. I think I have everything in a pile in the garage ready to load up.

It has been pretty quiet around here the last few days. I hope everyone is getting ready to go hunting.

When does your season open?

First off, good luck Wing! Post up pics if you can.

Rifle, big game starts with bear, week of Thanksgiving. Deer the Monday following. Son wants me to take up the bow after a couple or so decades without...that would be 2 weeks, not enough time to get proficient enough for ethical hunting so maybe next season for me.
...oh yeah! thats gonna hurt!

Thanks JSG.

I'll try to get a few pictures. It's going to be a great hunt with a few good friends.

Opens on a Monday? kinda odd. It must stop the weekend massacre
Ours used to open on a Sunday but now it's Saturday for most.
Bear and upland , turkey , wolf open on a date not a day. I like that better.

PA is still a Monday through Sat. hunting only state. Only things allowed to be shot are vermin and some varmints. Rural schools take the first week of deer as a holiday due to too many kids being off hunting with their folks....some of the teachers hunt as well. Beer season fluctuates year to year with the guesstimated bear populations being the factors. Some zones have longer/extended seasons, some shorter.

I liked the Sunday opening better too. The deer/elk season closes Sunday after Thanksgiving, in most of state, they count backwards the five weeks, for opening and back two more for antelope, which happens to be Columbus Day weekend (most years). They used to have one week gap between bow and rifle seasons, now they don't. They also added youth only, two days early opening. Which is good but too often abused, as early chance for second deer/elk for parent.

Most deer and antelope areas open on October first. It doesn't matter what day it lands on.

I like the idea of letting the kids take time out of school to hunt. I think that will keep our sport going with younger hunters.

Anyway. No deer yet but I have one of two antelope tags filled. It was a great hunt.

I shot him at 205 yards. and had a short downhill drag.

I have pictures but don't have them on my computer yet. I'll post them soon.

way to go wingmaster....meat in the pot.....our bear is open for baiting first then dogs a week or so later....primary deer season is Thanksgiving week starting on Sat before and lasting 9 days. Many BS deer seasons B4 and after regular season plus bow deer opens in Sept.-Dec I think, don't bow hunt.

Thanks IBD.

I hope the weather holds out for you. I bet some years you are knee deep in snow by then.
