I was looking at Springfield armory's web site and saw that they are making a copy of the Browning High Power. They call it the SA-35.

I went to a couple local shops and they didn't have one. I was hoping to see one up close.

They are about half the price of a FN High Power.

Have any of you seen one up close? What are your thoughts?

Joe magtegna reviewed it on Gun Stories.  I was impressed.  But I've not seen one.  His report was it was a great design and the springfield is nicely finished.

Many people believe it is the gun that should have been USA pistol, not the 1911!!!

It is a heavy weight combat pistol, good for military, and for target.
seems that today many match shooters are abandoning the 45 cartridge, as the light recoil of the 9mm give improved accuracy and recovery time.

I thought for $699 list it is a bargain for a steel USA made gun.

That was a really good review.

I'm looking forward to handling one. It's been a long time since I have been excited about a new offereing in a semi auto hand gun.

I have 2. My carry gun is a Smith & Wesson Shield and I have a Ruger SR9. The Shield is good for carrying around because it's small and shoots pretty good for what it is. The SR9 was a bad decision. It functions good but the trigger is horrible and I'm sure it's just me but a basketball sized group at 15 yards is about as good as it gets. And the biggest thing is it's plastic. I'm not much of a plastic gun guy.

In defense of the SR-9 it was designed by Ruger for CCW, to get some oof that unlimited market$$.  And most new CCW people don't know how to shoot, so a heavy trigger is a must.  It is sort of a copy of Glock; again not a target pistol.

My 9mm is a S& W m39, single/double action, not striker fired.  It handles nice, but still not target accuracy in my hands (or with my eyes).

High cap 9mms for CCW really control the market and have retarded the market for target 9s.   Maybe the SA-35 will change that????

The S&W 39 is a good quality firearm.

I agree about high capacity retarding the market. I'm not so sure that will change any time soon though. Most of the young guys I know like plastic guns and high capacity. Evidence of that is at every gun store in my area. Theirs a lot more composit stocked guns on the rack than their is blued and walnut. I think it was caused by our throw away society. Kids don't see the value in a nice piece of checkered walnut.

It is the old parable of the new gun on the cover of Guns and Ammo and nowadays TV and the internet. The manufacturer releases them for gun gurus to test and review and obtain free advertising. Many times they are pre production prototypes. In the past a year from cover to shelf was not uncommon. If you did find one sooner you were going to pay over retail.

I have an original P-35 made in Belgium by forced labor in WWll. For some reason it only eats fmj’s? I don’t shoot it much anyway because of the collector value. Wasn’t it JB’s last design? I’m not even sure he finished it? I sure like them and would like to see the new iteration myself.

The first thing I'm gonna get when I move to a good state is a Browning Hi-power. I love the looks of one, but due to the Great Vampire State requiring 10rd mags, I have never seen one here because of the standard 15rd mags.

Actually I like the CZ-75 better in a full frame  9mm.

I think JB designed, but first models were after he died.  He had to design around his patents (1911) which were sold to Colt.  some think that meant an improvement in design.
