I've always wanted to go on a big Monkey shoot. I don't want to go shoot one big monkey, I want to go shoot several hundred small monkeys. I think I could do India some good. And I'd like to shoot some baboons too. I'd take along a specialized battery of monkey rifles. It would include a mini 14 for those close in -monkey herd racing thru the tree top shots- the only thing a mini 14 is really good for- and a long barrelled thick stocked 7STW for more casual shooting, and a few in between guns just in case. I'd really like to do that before I get too old. Yep, I sure would like to go shoot some of those monkeys. I'll bet it has crossed some of your minds too. max

It's real. A fellow from here saw a weird critter hanging around a feeder. Nobody believed him, so he shot it next time he saw it. Turned out to be a Japanese snow monkey that got loose from a refuge a few miles away.

There was a thread on AR a year ago regarding shooting baboons..... I don't know if shooting primates would have much appeal to me after reading about some of the behaviors the animals display which are so human, which is odd since I usually see several humans a day I'd love to shoot if it was still the wild west.

The throphy fee in Africa for monkeys is $5.  Not much sport, but they make good leopard bait.  No trophy fee if you sue tham for bait.  And I usually set 5-6 baits a day.

Actually the baboon is not a monkey, more like a dog, and the large males are often refered to as dogs (females bitches).  I would not recommend the 223 for large male baboons.  They are large, vicious, and highly protective of their family group.  308,'06', 270 perfect.  They make a lot of false charges, and when one runs at you and screams in your face with curled lips, they become big game quickly.  I can tell you that 416s work well.  A baboon skull mount is beautiful.  Few people in NA recognize the skulls in my office.

The snow monkey was shot near Dilley, Texas a couple of years back.
