Topic: Revolver in .41 Magnum ? Posted: 02 July 2003 at 08:32 |
Anybody own/shoot these? Sold off my S&W Model 29 .44 Mag when I got my Model 57 .41 Magnum tuned. By far my favourite of the "N" frame 'Smiths.
Marcus.

Sir North;
Never shot a Smith model 57. At one time I had a N frame model 27-2 6" barrel that was a very nice gun. But some guy threw money at me until I let him walk out the door with it. It was a good gun but it was damn good money.

North Logan, Ruger makes their new Blackhawk Hunter in .41 Mag. It really suprised me. I think i even saw some just sitting there all alone in some boxes at the Ruger warehouse. Unfortunatley, you can only get them through gun dealers. Find a gun dealer, and have them order some and then that can be your new medium range weapon. You can throw a scope on it and everything. It has the super awesome Ruger integral scope mounts, and the superb Ruger scope rings.

NL,
I had a Model 29 with the long barrel, had a master smith at S&W work the action for me. Use to use if for competition.
Anyway, I've shot a single Colt new frontier 41 mag, but right now I have a Taurus 425 Tracker in 41 Mag. It's titanium, 5 shot, with a 4" ported barrel, only weights about 1 1/2 lbs.

N L, I have a mod 57, 6" bbl that was tuned up. Bought it in 81 . Been all over with me on hunts. Taken 1 Black bear,a dandy 9 pt whitetail,and a pile of varmints. It likes Sierra 210 JHC's and a healthy dose of H 110.

Nothing wrong with a Mod 57 for sure. I had one a while back and wish I still had one. I have one in my sights now though, pinned barrel and recessed chambers. Great gun. I currently have 2 Model 28's and two Model 29's, but that 57 is singing my song. As far as the rugers go, I don't like those plow handle grips........Kingpin

Oh yes NL, lose those grips and get you a set of S&W target grips, they displace the recoil better....Kingpin

How does the recoil compare to a .45 Colt? How about to a .357 Mag?
BTW: Who is the .41 a magnum of? Remington. What about the .357? I think it is S&W but i am not sure. I know the .44 is a Remmie.

N H..... The recoil of my 41 is much sharper and faster than any of my .45's. With lighter loads it will handle much like a .357. If you shoot the .41 side by side with a similer model .44 mag, there will be less recoil from the .41. The .41 was intoduced about 1964 I belive,and it was a Rem development. By the way,I assume you live in the Granit state.. Got a younger brother that resides there. Nice country where he is. Never hits the moose lottery though!!!

That evil moose lottery! It is impossible to get it unless you have connections! I have been trying for 3 years! They dont have that point system like they do out west. If you do get it, you have to wait 5 years before you can get another!

Late arrival here.......my 41 Magnum is a Blackhawk x 6.5", and it's superbly accurate. The plowhandle grip frame is likely to get replaced with a Brownell's Bisley Kit when things slow down a bit at work. I don't like having to leave projects "half-done" once I start them.
Most of my shooting with this revolver has been cast 210 or 240 grain bullets at 900-1000 FPS. This is pleasant with the stock grip frame, but the 1400 FPS JSP's kinda whack ya a little. THAT is why the Bisley grip frame will get installed.
