... finally got to the range today with donor rifle for my heavy hunter project.
the j-lock syn adl .270, with cheapo bushnell 3x9x40 aboard, all for $275, fires first two "on paper" shots at 50 yards - touching.
diddle with scope, move target stand to 100 yards. next three shots 1.125 inch, vertical string, definitely tuppertosis despite removal of forearm pads and a little sanding. next two shots - single .30 caliber hole. third in string opens group to 1 inch. next group, 1.25 inches. tried two groups with cardboard shims between forearm and barrel. both 1.125 inch.
oh yeah, all with factory ww 130-grain hunting fodder, $11.47 at wal-mart.
i'm thinkin' i got a deal. bedding and better forearm clearance will yield subinchability. factory trigger tuned by self to 3.5 pounds or so.
as soon as i get a steel triggerguard, i'll bed it. also will try it in the mcm tooley hbr stock just for sport.
my re-stocked 1906 swede m-96 sporter didn't do too bad either. it's running 1.25 with military ball on a worn out barrel. gotta fix that someday, but it'll do for whitetail work one more season. but it's the LAST time i mess with a bargain-grade do-it-yourself walnut stock. what a bunch of work!

I'm betting because of the name you won't get a "you get what you pay for" response like me and my $300 win.......

I think these days its getting harder to buy a cheap rifle and keep it for a custom job, your best bet really is to just buy it and not shoot it, but who wants to do that?

Stupid people are like a slinky, they don't serve much purpose in the world but they sure are fun to watch tumble down the stairs!

i was not a fan of remmies until i actually bought one. had to give it up for cash. ai'nt gonna give this one up. it'll take me a while to fully re-rig the thing.

if i were gonna build a nasty weather/unforgiveable conditions hunt everything rifle, it's be a winnie or a mauser just 'cause of the simplicity of the triggers and bolt in-the-field take-apart-ability. and i've GOT a mauser.

but for 350-chevy-small-block parts availability and gunsmithing options and laser-ish accuracy and relative simplicity, make it a 700.
