Fella's;

I recently ordered one of the new SIG 1911-22 platforms in stainless.  I got this one for a couple of reasons, maybe none of them good reasons, but my reasons nonetheless.  1.  I don't got no SIG - yet.  2.  I wanted a dedicated .22 rimfire semi-auto.  3.  It was something different from the ubiquitous Ruger.  And 4.  It felt good.

However, it's going to come with standard G.I. type sights.  At my age, that ain't near good enough.  So I'm almost certainly going to put some sort of holo or red dot sight on it.  However, I have virtually no experience with either reds or holos.  Therefore, I'm looking for a little help with what would be a reasonable sight to put on the new toy.  I'm not looking for anything but minute of gopher to about 25 yards, that's not pie-in-the-sky is it?  The gun's gonna run me right around $410.00 & I doubt I want to spend much more than say - $250 on the sight.  Or, is anything of reasonable quality that'll do the job for the next decade or two available for less?

Thanks, 900F

Just my 2 cents.

the Sig 1911-22 is not made by sig, actually made by GSG, a German company, but imported and branded by Sig.

I assume it is a blow back with the looks like 1911 slide (probably aluminum to keep the weight reasonable for blow back design.  But with the slide moving back and its weight critical to operation, I am guessing you will need a grip mounted red-dot mount.

The Ruger would let you mount something on the fixed barrel.

I like red-dots for hunting with my old worn out eyes.  They work great in low light levels.  the newer models now have long lasting batteries for the light.  I only use the red dots not the green dot models.  They also make ones with lots of 'reticle' light combinations...but I still stick with the circular red dot.

If we go to another property that permits handguns, maybe we will see the 1911-22 red-dot  performance on gophers at MYGAWDS 2013???

I've shot both. They are identical. Like Bear said I don't think the extra
weight on the slide is going to work. They had some trouble with
standard velocity ammo on their own. I traded off my GSG but tD still
has his Sig. He could probably give you more insight on their
operation.

They are not the quality of the Lil Browning but they are also a lot less
expensive.

I use an Ultra Dot, slide mounted...original model....on my 1911 .45 & it shoots to the center X at 50yds.....from bench....free hand on hind legs is a bit different...IT still shoots the same but the "wobble" area is a bit more free hand........

Have been using a Tasco Pro/Point for nearly 20yrs on my HS Citation (.22LR) & it has been very reliable and accurate.......same as the Ultra Dot above....can't say the same for the new/current Pro/Point/red-green dots....bought one and it lasted only about 500 .45acp rounds or less B4 it quit.

I tried to change the grips on my GSG and the replacements wouldn't
fit because of the ambi grip safety. They say most of the parts are the
same as the 1911 but the safety isn't one of them. Most of the 1911
grip mounts I've seen replace the right grip. I am guessing but would
think a lefty would like the safety on the right? You may get something
to work but I don't think it'll be with the factory safety.

It comes with three front sights of different heights to adjust for
elevation. They have greenish dots kinda like fiber optic but not quite.

There is a "cage" mount too for the 1911......don't how it would work on the GSG gun..........they run around $100 & come in 8 or 10 hole type for mounting to frame.....gotta drill/tap that many holes.  Work great...Clark Custom Guns sell them as do some others.....Champion Shooters Supply might have them as well as maybe Brownell's.

I always thought those things were more for matches than full blown tactical. I DID, just the other day, see something VERY interesting though. It was from Laser Lyte (LaserLyte.com). It's a rear sight with a laser built into it. It's a pretty impressive piece of kit to own, They make them for about all guns and they run $129.95 from Midway. It's an oversized rear sight (because of the laser in it) and I installed it on one of the new Springfield XD's. It still fits in the holster and looks impressive for wat it is. For what it's worth, if I wanted one, I'd buy it...................Kingpin

Got the Sig in FDE and love it. Extra mags can be bought at Joeboboutfitters.com $29.99 a piece with free shipping on orders over $99.00. Maybe go to the Opthamologist and get yer prescription up dated and that might help with all your shooting.

Fella's;

The guys at the shop have told me that stainless is not shown on any of their wholesaler's sites or on the SIG site.  I may just have to go with the blue gun.  Which is no big deal.

Kingpin, I do believe I'll mosey over to Midway & check that puppy out.  I'm also wondering if I can have the slide milled & put a competition rear sight on it.

T-D, I went to the opthamologist & got a prescription update so I could ride motorcycles.  I'm still kinda in sticker shock over that one.  If I order another pair of specialty glasses all kinda things could go wrong.  1.  I could become confused about which pair I'm wearing for what purpose.  2.  It could cut into my gun-buying money.  3.  And all the things that could go wrong as a result of #1.

Furthermore, I'd say that if you wipe your friends on the furniture - - they aintcher friends no more.  Or, you've regressed & are living in a college frat house - - which is maybe the same thing.

There is braille on all drive through keys. I always wondered why. I guess CB has, unknowingly, at long last solved this mystery. LOL............................Kingpin
