I was in the field as the light got good to shoot yesterday.
I looked for hours Friday on my weather map site to find some acreage with the wind under 15 mph. I came up with a lot more then I hoped. In fact it was more than One guy could hunt. Funny point it was right up next to the rocky front. NORMALLY The windiest area in the state. As the sun light up the short grass prairie my wind station , a string on the antenna of the F150 hung straight down wiggling slightly from the southeast. But it was only 10* very little snow on the ground and the ground was frozen, finally.
I did a little Female calls, the some pup stuff with great exception, Nothing but prairie silence. OK On to the next set. I'm hunting a big reservoir That would usually have hordes of people ice fishing and messing around. They had a problem with the dam and out flow and have completely drained the lake, no ice fisherman. Perfect! I called every mile I could hide the truck. YUP nothing but a few carious bald eagles and crows. Dang whats going on here. I think I found my problem tucked in one of the impromptu camp spot was a guy and his 5 wheel , had a motor bike, along side and was packing up his generator, Looked like he had been there a few days.
Only reason for ANY one to be there was to hunt coyotes. DANG.
I did not stop to ask, just turned around and departed. I did a few set off the county road with the same results. I'm not saying the other hunter was the main problem but he certainly did not help.
I hit a different area on the way home a place where we called geese , it sets in the midst of a LARGE ranch on a thee section peace of State land. Where there was snow I could see no one had been in there for a LONG time, maybe we where the last ones. I was bale to hide just under the dirt dam and hoofed up to get the wind right.
Trying not to make more noise then a D8 cat and keep off the Horizon. I set up again with great anticipation. I called there an hour in disbelief. Not even a crow. The walk out I walked the easy path on the dam and it was a highway of coyote, fox, raccoon, weasel, rabbit and mouse tracks. I could not bereave I could not call something in there,Dang, whats going on.

With that has any one ever herd anything about  ultrasonic calls?
I have been trying to look in to something a saw once. Like a dog whistle in the 55,000 mz  range. What kind of speaker could broadcast something like that. I have found MP3 recording of such and YouTube has them BUT I cant here them they play on the TV and my cats do not respond so I think the speakers don't play that high. ??????????

I know they are around and some of the guys have tried here to get them as well. been slim pickings for sure.

I have a deer carcass about 75 feet from my driveway end that was a roadkill that made it up the bank into the brush before it died from it's injuries. Figured the yotes would clean it up quick as I hear the whiley buggers every night in force. Prints in the snow showed they went for it after two weeks of sitting when we had a quick melt off. Second night of them hitting it I thought they drug it off but it turns out they just had a tug of war with it and ripped the hind legs off. Been 3 weeks since then and not a new track back to it. Hard to read these things when the food source is so readily available yet they must not be hungry. I get home around 3 ish every morning and always have the tools ready if the occasion arises.....notta glimpse!
