Several months ago I bought a bunch of supposedly once fired .45 ACP brass. It was a lot cheaper to get the brass that was mixed large primer and small primer.

I have loaded all of the large primer brass several times and lost some and I am thinking about ordering some more.

The thing is, I have two 3 pound coffee cans full of small primer brass. My thought is to load it with the same load I have been using and use it in USPSA matches where they don't let you pick up your brass.

Do you see a problem with this? Is it ok to use the same powder charge? My loads are just over the minimum load.

Thanks for any input

If you're loading fast powder, like bullseye or 231, you should be OK, function wise. You may drop a few FPS, if you need to meet power factor, you might add .1gr just to make sure. I would load a few, to test function, before loading large batch.

I load both large primer 308 ("normal brass") and small primer ("palma brass") 308. The loads for the small primer brass, does take more powder, but this could be because of smaller flash hole and slow powder. For 45auto, I've never seen difference, but I just throw loads on progressive and leave .2gr cushion. I'm not good enough to shoot bullseye and I can't tell difference on plates. I load on progressive, so I sort small primer cases out and load them all, while I have small primer feed set up.

A bigger pain, is when you get a bunch of crimped primer brass. I used to get a fair amount of 9mm, but 45s have been showing up.

If you haven't ordered replacement brass yet, you could save some sorting. Many people at Handloadersbench recommend them. http://www.oncefiredbrass.net/pibrper10.html" rel="nofollow - http://www.oncefiredbrass.net/pibrper10.html

Agree with Robert.

I see no downside in loading 5 shots and then see if they cycle.  You will probably not see any change in pistol recoil, nor sight picture.

Thanks guys. I will try a few with .1 more powder and make sure they cycle then load the rest of them.

Thanks again

wing.....I'm a bit late to the party here....however,  I don't know how your experiment turned out with the Small primers in .45acp brass.

I'd look in a current reloading manual or check with the brass brand maker of small primer pocket .45acp brass for their input.

I loaded some using .1 grain more powder. They cycled good and I couldn't tell the difference.

That's my plan IBD. I'm really bad about picking up brass. It almost hurts my feelings if I leave any behind.
