Ok here the thing.
You know I'm making a catrermeran type airboat. That means I have two separate hulls Ok.
That's twice the potential for a problem for a bung problem. WHAT IF ?
What if I did not put a drain in ?
Here is the plan ,
I'm thinking about putting a single diaphragm pump on the motor platform and running suction tubes to the lowest point on the cats with a screen filter , for a bulge pump.
Why can't I just use a Water float switch that will turn on the pump ,and some kind of Ball plug to stop sucking air ,if there is water in the hulls and use it to drain the hulls as needed and not have a bung plug?
I'm going to use it in some ruff terrain and I would not want to damage the bung drain.

boat drains are very rugged. and you need a gravity
drain.

You need two brass garboard drain plugs with flanges.
about $8 each stringer than you boat. bolt on. put
one on each of the pontoons at the bottom of the
transoms.

they are brass with standard pipe threads, no leaks.
and you don't have to take it out.

with just battery operated bilge pumps (I have 3 on my
boat), you depend on a battery.

With your grid deck all kinds of sand, dirt, leaves,
shot will fall into the hull. this stuff will hang up
your bilge float switch and foul the pumps. Happens all
the time...float hangs up battery runs continuously till
dead...no start 'em then.

Master shot off fixes all that.
Yes weeds and candy wrappers even sunflower seed shells, Kill bulge pumps.
I plan on winching it up on to the trailer backwards the water should pour out the front I think.

I know your right.
I Have Never had a drop of water build up In the Hewes even in the rain when I'm running. It is stored with it's cover on and under the boat port.
'Sept when I put the bow under the water up to half the windshield In a 6 foot wave .

Something else to consider, with MT's new Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS), watercraft inspections, you must have way to drain and dry boat. So far it's been "voluntary" on west side, (they set up watercraft inspection check stations and will clean your boat, before allowing you to leave, kind of like Coast Guard aux. "courtesy" check) but I bet it becomes mandatory before long.
