  Which would you buy ? Nikon Pro-staff,Simmons Master series,or Bushnell Legend. Any other suggestions in that price range would be appreciated. Thanks

I had a Legend 1.5x5 x40 shotgun scope, nice compact scope, great fov, good resolution, great for low light, had it on Rem .243 auto.  Great coyote calling gun, gave to my daughter, she traded scope off for Leopold V1 and is happy with it.

Nikon Pro Staffs are often sold refurbished, so must be lots of problems.

Simmons, I pretty much avoid altogether.

Same with Bushnell, other than their elite line.  However, the Legend and Trophy might be o.k.

I'd probably save a few more pennies and get the Burris Fullfield 2, probably the best scope you can get for the money based on my research.

 My 88 wears a Burris 3x9 compact. I have bought a few Pentax Gameseekers here latly and for the price they seem pretty good. Just put a 4x12 Gameseeker on the boys .270 he's a happy camper. Also if you go to riflescopes.com and look at the bargin page you will find 100's of refurb Nikon's,thats a big red flag to me too.

Tattoo;

I've got a Bushnell Legend 5-15X A/O mil-dot on a light varminter & it's a decent scope for the money.  It's certainly not an exceptional scope, or value.  Where it falls short is in resolution.  Making a scope with a high X factor is not hard at all.  Delivering resolution comensurate with the magnification, now that's what's worth the money!

The scope that I'd pick in the price range you've given us is the Leupold Rifleman.  It'll be good glass with an unbeatable warranty.  FWIW I've had nothing but trouble with multiple Burris products including two scopes & will buy no more of it.

I have a Bushnell Trophy on my model 88, and have had no problems with it at all. I've never had to shoot more than 200 yds with it, and the scope works fine.

 Well guys, I ended up buying a Nikon Buckmaster 3x9x40 but I'm an old timer and I sure don"t like the looks of the big bell. I ended up putting my 4x40 on my new Ruger hawkeye in .358 win.

  So now have another question. I bought a Winchester 100 off gunbroker. Just couldn"t help it. I used those rifles in the 70"s. They fit and come up fast for me. of course I was 40 yrs younger then. The one I got on the net has a Bushnell Scopechief VI  2.5x8x32, I doubt it's any good. My old ones I used Weaver K3 and they were fine for hunting(not shooting tiny groups) So what should I put on the Model 100 ? I will use it in the timber with maybe a 200 yd shot sometimes. I want to keep this rifle as light as possible. God Bless

 Don't wright off that Scopecheif so fast,if I could buy them brand new I would. My sons old pre-64 100 wore a cheap 3x9 Pro-Hunter and that scope was better than anynew Simmons today. My 100 before I sold it  had a Redfield 4x on it,that did really well. My 2 brush guns I hunt with now both have 2x7's on them one Lupy and one Swift.

I put a new Simmons Master Pro Hunter with the new flex tube in 3-9X40 on my 8mm Mauser. I've got about a 100 full house 195 grainers and 150 Max loaded 150 grainers through it and so far it's held perfect zero. I have to admit it's not as bright as a loopy but for the price it's OK. I also have a Simmons 6-24X50 on my .223 it has a little paralax that i can't quite resolve at some ranges but is far brighter than the Burris in similar size that my buddy has on his varmit rig. He was really disgusted when he looked through mine knowing what he paid for the Burris. Again neither is as bright as the $400 class scopes but they seem to be minute of critter. RD
