I suspect all of us at one time have leaned their gun against a tree. Only to walk away 20 foot and then look back and can't find it.
It must hapen often that even after hours, people just can't find the right tree.. Had a guy ask me to restore his savage 24. It was a gun he found in the Arizona desert leaning against a big rock.....mush have been there 10+ years...all rust with bleached stock. Well, last week while hunting bumped into a lumberman cutting timber, seems he had been cutting a oak about 2 foot in diameter....BAMB cut into a rifle that had grown completely into the tree. Ruined his heavy duty commerical saw $1000. But he said he didn't mind hunters being in the woods, as long as they didn't lean their rifles against trees!

Not many trees where we hunt but, Never lay this one down in any kind of cover. Prop it up on your sticks or something...

I have noted that every time I set my rifle against a tree to take a wizz around the other side, thats when the game shows up. In hindsight, I didn't do that at all this year and it could be the reason I have empty space in my freezer..........nah, just a coinkydink!

10 years ago my bro' bought a Mossberg pump 3.5" shotgun camo.
I have two Mossberg pumps, dependable but no class; but inexpensive. My bro' could afford a better gun at age 50. so with sibling emotion, I said "Than gun looks like shit". Brotherly support. Later that week we went dove hunting in a farm field that had been fertilazed with cow manure. lots of seeds and corn in that stuff that brought in hundreds of doves. We both shot a loy of birds, hunting 500 yards apart. Then I noticed him walking around in circles for 20 minutes????? Seems he set his gun down in the field to retrieve a bird...and then coulddn't find it. It blended into the fertilizer/grass. A perfect blend. Working together, it took us an hour to find it!

Been there done that!! Developed the habit of putting my orange hat over the muzzle. It helps.

788 GREAT idea, why didn't I think of that.
Similiar problem, last week. hunting I carry a combo walking-shooting stick. took a whiss, read the GPS and walked 30 yards before noticing I had some balance issues....no walking stick. couldn't see it couldn't find it. aluminum camo. Got back to my whiss spot, thankful for yello snow. Still couldn't see it. I was leaning on a 10" tree 'thinking' prayin' cuss'n. It was leaning on the back side of that tree. memo to self-----put your orange hat on gun or stick you lean anywhere.
