Well I stopped by a gunshop that is a Ithaca dealer.  The guns are made in Sandusky, and are every bit the quality of past Ithacas.  The Deer Slayer II and III are beautiful guns.  I wish I had looked at one first hand before buying the Browning BPS.  The M37 28 guage AAA grade is amazingly beautiful.  Here's a link:

Nope, but they ain't as high as other brands, not as low as some.  The VALUE is what I look at first, not the price.

value is a function of price and quality.

I think you are appreciating the quality, now.  The belguim browning superposed are great quality, but the value is marginal as the outlandish prices they are commanding now.

They look good, remember there a re lots of great condition 37 used.  My brother bought one like new in 16 ga for $300 last summer.

I saw one for $395 recently.  A little high in my book, given the condition.

Like I always told my kid, quality is cheaper in the long run.  Hell, everything's over-priced these days.  I'm kinda picky and I don't tend to settle much.  I'd rather do without and save for a while then search like hell for a deal.  Generally, they don't get cheaper, so if you're apt to get one, best sooner rather than later.

I may look at a 37 someday.  I've got a couple other things I want to get for archery deer hunting first.  A climbing treestand for one.

Over the years I've had about 14 treestands.  The first one was a Baker, the original climber.  As i've gotten older the aluminum ladder stands work better.  But I kept my two best climbers:  A Saber (steel and heavy) and a Tall Timbers (aluminum large and light, adjusts to the angle of the tree  $$$). http://www.timbertalloutdoors.com/

I've used and still have two chain ons, with steps.  I hunt them on public land and leave them chained on and just remove the steps and hide them in brush about 30 yars from the stand.

I'm looking at the Ol' Man climber, but I'm open to your suggestion.  I'd probably prefer a ladder stand, but am afraid to leave anything on public land.  There's so little public land around here it gets hammered pretty hard.  Lots of poor stock too.  My buddy up north uses a climber, and my knees are good compared to his.  Still, I may try his out before buying.

I use a ladder mostly as my whole body is shot.

The chain on (and locked) is great for public land, you can take a step pole in with you, pretty light and quieter than a climber.  The chain on about 14-14 foot up lets others see you stand place, and might keep someone from hunting next to you.

I've hat two treestand stolen, one on public land and one on private land.

motorcycle plastic coated chains are what I use now.  You can chain a ladder with multiple pieces of chain.  Ladders are very cheap at places like Dick's, especially at the end of the season.

Of course the climber lets you move the stand either on the same tree or a slightly different location.  I've moved some stands only 15 feet to get closer to a travel lane in heavy brush; even my heavy chain on stands can be moved when you get a better read on the game.

OH, NOW Mr. ETHICS wishes he could talk about it. Ever notice that people with no ethics always want to talk about them?....................Kingpin

Mule, It's YOUR thread! If you want to hijack your own thread and talk ethics, who is stopping you. It certainly wouldn't be the first time you or any of the rest of us took a thread off topic.  RD
