about 10 years ago all the new cartridges were "magnums" and sought higher velocity (WSM, RUM).
seems to me the present new designs are anti-Magnums giving less velocity (or duplicating) older tried and true cartridges. 6.5 Creedmore+ less than the older 6.5 Swed, 260 R, 264, 6.5 RM etc Seems any change an hyped marketing sells rifles.

Firearms are a soft market right now so the manufacturers are trying to survive by introducing new products.

You are right Dan, survval is the most important mission.
Most of the sucessful new cartridges are designed around the AR platform which requires a short low power case. Not a fan of the Black Rifles, but MSR IS the future. So Black Rifles Matter!

Biggy is Ohio and the straight sided case laws. The voids are filling with the 45-70, pistol cartridges, and the new 350 Win.. Slugs and sabots still run the gammot but things can change. Ar platforms are popular and many states are now allowing them to be used with a limited capacity so .223 cased hybrids are the got to with the .308 right behind. Eventually a reasonably priced Ar platform able to handle full length magnums will step in and the craze will be back. Currently, with modern powders and projectiles, the line between what you can get out of a .308 case and the longer -06 of old are on par so the need isn't there. This harkens much to your '06 thread and the prolific nature of why it's struggling. Progress is leaving it behind. It won't ever go away as there are too many of them as it is. Absolutely nothing wrong with them either. But why buy a longer actioned gun new when the shorter actioned ones do just as well. Want a hammer, buy a full length magnum action and get what you want....it's kinda stuck in between. It's notorious in some configurations as a hard kicker and the performance doesn't justify it over a .308 length which has the same performance and not known for the recoil. I own several and they shoot well.....I still like my 7mm though.

I have noticed that even wildcats are popular in smaller cases. 6mm's seem to be real popular at least in this area. I know several guys that have built 6mm Creedmoor's. They swear by them.
Also, Recoil doesn't bother me but I definately shoot low recoiling guns a lot better than the ones with more recoil.

I have always considered myself to be quite the bullshitter, But ocasionally it is nice to sit back and listen to a true professional......So, Carry on.
