I bult a small gong for pistol shooting.
It is 10X10 high grade 3/8 plate steel.
The stand folds and come apart to carry.
Heavy but fairly stable.
I think the colt and the boys 44 mag will be ok shooting it. Anything but the 22 and 17 hornet rifles will have to say to paper and cardboard.
MAYBE out at 500 yards plus, all though my 8RM is still supersonic at 1000 yards.
I used steel belted tire cut in to 2" strips to hang the plate. Bullets should pas through and the strap will absorbed many hit, I hope.
I did cut two more set to have on hand.

Looking good D.

Let me know how loud it klangs. I have a similar target and the plate hangs from a chain. It doesn't klang very loud. Maybe the rubber would not absorb the sound as much.
I have always considered myself to be quite the bullshitter, But ocasionally it is nice to sit back and listen to a true professional......So, Carry on.

Looks good.

I have a plate out the back door at 35 yards. I have had .22’s come back and hit the house but it’s a lot heavier 1” thick.  Generally if the bullet can swing it you should be OK. I have a buddy that has a heavy plate at 50 yards. I usually hide behind a tree when he starts shooting .223’s at it.  I’ve been hit by spall several times and seen others draw blood. Definitely enough to take an eye out. I have 1” and 1 1/8” plates at 100 yards. The 1” has hundreds of hits a finally has a hole in it after many years of use. I have a couple others that hang by chain. I am always fixing them. That rubber is a good idea.

I have yet to try it hanging.
When we set it on the ground against a bank or a pile of rocks we could plainly here ours at 25 yards.

Bigger and thinner make more noise than small and thick. Of the two I have on chains the bigger makes more noise.

OK Thanks guys.

Mine is relatevly small, 8 inch circle and it's always been at least 100 yards away. And then their is that thing my wife keeps reminding me of, I can't hear very good.
