I don't bow hunt. I have never shot a bow. Never had any interest in a bow. She asked me, Papa, What should I get? I DON'T KNOW $HIT. It sounds like she just wants it to shoot targets??? She has here hart set on a recurve NOT a compound, for what ever reason. She is 15 , 5 foot 2" maybe 95 pounds long arms and all legs. She is also quite accomplished shooter, not as much a hunter, but loves to shoot.
From what I have researched it looks like she needs some thing like a 54" 20 pound bow and a 24" draw. Sound about right? If you have ANY suggestions or recommendations PLEASE let me know. ![]() |

Hey, D - I don't know much but my youngest son is getting interested - a local expert is mentoring him and teaching him a lot, for which I am very grateful. A couple of weeks ago, we bought him a used bow that seems good as an entry-level bow, except for the fact that it turned out to be a left-handed bow. If your grand-daughter is a lefty, I can get it to you for 10$. I would give it for free, except my wife wants to at least get her 10$ back that she paid for it. PS - you weren't under the Marias River Bridge at Loma on Saturday, were you? A guy looking a LOT like you was fishing, but I thought his wife said his name was Jerry, so I chaled it up to mistaken identity. He was only catching shiners or gold-eyes, but she was evidently bringing in walleyes quite regularly! Edited by TasunkaWitko |

It's been a few years, but 4H and Girl Scouts, used to run Archery programs. My youngest went through 4H/Brownie air rifle and archery, they provided everything and it was free or nearly so. I would go to couple archery shops in town and ask about youth programs. They'll learn right and enjoy it more. Some of the shops around here have leagues and it's a cheap way to practice. |

d...many schools have archery programs for the phy ed programs.....be careful with a used recurve bow that it does not have a cracked limb or uneven curve in the limbs or maybe a twist in one limb. If you get a used bow get a new string for it, go to good archery shop to get help in buying the right string... they can be all wood or glass backed too. Check for any cracks in the glass part of limb. If she is serious buy her a new PSE recurve for around $100-200 or more...check out the sportsmans guide...they list them.

I am a life long archer and the best thing you can do is
start her right. Find a local archery shop and go talk to them. Tell them what you want and a price point. Let them find and fit the bow and arrows to her. If she has a good fitting bow to start with it will be way better than just guessing and getting something that is not going to fit or shoot correctly. |
