A couple weeks ago I was in a local gun store and there were a couple of the S&W 1911's in the counter.  One was stainless with low profile sights and checkered rubber grip panels.  I think the price was $950 or so.  I've never shot one and don't know much about them, but it looks like a real nice 45.  Any of you have experience with one yet?

I shot one at the rnage a few weeks ago. It had a nice trigger and shot well. I only ran about 20 rds thru it, but I like it. I just can't adjust my economics to pay almost $1k for a handgun.

Brought home the S&W 1911 yesterday.  After a stop at the range, that is.  Ended up paying $829 for it.   (The 950 price I'd mentioned above was for a slightly fancier model with adjustable sights)

I was spending most of my time at the range breaking in a new 7mm barrel and only put two magazines of ammo through the 1911.  Both 230gr hardball and 230gr HP worked fine and hit the paper at 25 yards.  A lot more testing is upcoming.

Looks like a nice rig. Everyone knows S&W makes a heck of a revolver. They sure needed some help with those crappy 5600/Sigma models though. I think they are back on track with the 1911's .Still can't believe how many companies are still building them after almost a 100 years on the market. I guess the '73 Peace Maker, and 92 Win. are still going strong and are copied too after even more years since initial their introduction. I doubt a 100 years from now people will be making retro 486k computers. Some things like the wheel are hard to improve upon.

Endeavor to persevere.

The S&W 1911's look interesting... I even have the Western Canadian distributor's main shop about 2 1/2 miles from my house. But those pistols are running around $1,200 - $1,400 Canadian up here.

I can get a new Para Ordnance for that or even a pair of used Colt or Springfield 1911A-1's for that kinda money...

Guess I won't be getting one any time soon.

I hope you enjoy yours, though!

Regards, Marcus.

Wingmaster,  I'm still enjoying the heck out of it.  No problems to report.

Bought another Wilson Combat 8 round magazine, same kind it came with.  Ammo get's gobbled up without a hitch, both ball and hp.  I shoot this gun maybe once a month, couple magazines worth each time.  Twice I've put over 70 rounds through at each session...gun got real dirty but kept working.

Because of the slim profile and how well I can shoot it (most of the time) the 1911 has become my #1 carry gun.

Yes, I like it.     GR

Thanks Gunrunner.

I think I will be adding one to my collection. Pretty hard to go wrong with a 1911. I would say the design should have proven itself by now.

Fella's;

I dont' have one & haven't shot one.  But I'd certainly consider getting one if the price is right.  I'm totally out of stainless .45ACP's at the moment & that might have to be corrected.  \

S0 many guns, so little time.  Or money, or room in the safe, ways to hide the expense from the chancellor, etc, etc.
