i lived at the north end of the black hills, in spearfish, for almost 4 years, but never got to camp there. saw a LOT of nice places, though.

has anyone camped up there, and where at?

Yes, camped in the Hills several times.  When I was model railroading, I studied the Hills railroads quite a bit.  My layout was based upon Englewood.  In any case, I've camped at Sheridan Lake, Roubaix Lake (itty-bitty pond) and at least one other that I'm not sure of. 

Sheridan Lake is nice, easy access to anywhere in the Hills you want to go, except maybe the far south end.  There is a swimming beach.  Last stayed there in '96.
