These expensive custom jobs are real nice but it seems like every thing muct be just right or it just will not preform.

My cusom pre 64 featherweight .270 has been giving me fits showing accaisional signs of promise but over all a lot of dissapointment too,  Well I think I have her figured out.

Last week I was disgusted that I shot a better 100 yd group with my marlin 4570 than with the expencive custom 270,

I guessed rightly that the culprit was copper fowling fron some barnes tripple shocks.

so I scruberd her clean as hell and took 4 loads to the range.

I have narrowed my bullets to the 130 grain partition and the 140 grain Hornady BT. And the powders to IMR 4350 or R-19.    I put 5 rounds of the 130 grain Partition into .90 and 4 of those into .45, I put 4 of the hornady int .75.

I had another load with the nosler 130 this one using H-4831 , It put 3 rounds into .75 and 2 more into .71 about  2 inches bellow the other three.  I had 2 loads drop there primers in the plastic box and I remember them seating rather easilly, and I think thats why I had the 2 rounds print below the 3, a little preasure leaking out around the primer pocket.  So I bought 50 new winchester brass 100 Fed match primers and a new can of IMR 4350. Next weekend will tell me witch bullet and powder will be my mule deer load for 2005,,,tj3006

it sure is nice when you get to the point where you feel like you are starting to close the lid on a project. and although it is frustrating while it is in progress, when you get a rifle sorted out, you can look back on it and think it was fun. funny how hindsight works, no?
Hunting is not a matter of life or death; it is much more important than that.

Good luck with your loads TJ.  Looks like you're getting more of what you expected out of the rifle.   Keep an eye on that copper.
Somebody better call the Secret Service. Let 'em know there's an illegal alien in the White House...and it ain't the cook!!

I just plain won't be shooting any more X bullets from that rifle.. I only shot 10 and it was bad. I have other rifles that love the X bullets, But for this one i will work up a load probably with the 130 gr partition and a cheaper 130 for practice...tj3006
