Well, it just wasn't meant to be.

Drove 2 1/2 hours to the family farm to do some bowhunting last friday night and didn't get to bed till about 11:00 pm.  Woke up at around 4:45 AM to cold temps and lots of wind.  Still, I was going.

Dropped into the valley I'd be hunting and got within about 15 yards of a deer before he/she bolted.  Kept pressing on and bumped 3 or 4 off their beds.  They NEVER bedded there before!  I got into the stand at a little after 6:00 AM and waited the 1 1/2 hours for daylight to come.

First to walk by was a red fox.  Little shit, if season were in I would have shiskabobed him as he was only about 20 yards.  About a half hour later a flock of 5 hen turkeys came out and again, had season been in I'd have pinned one of them as they were even closer at one point even at the foot of my treestand!  They brought with them two does, which is what I wanted, but they zigged instead of zagged walking behind me where I didn't have a shot instead of in front of me where I did have a shot.  That's the way it goes I suppose.

Had to do some work the rest of the day and because we don't have Sunday hunting where I hunt, that was the only hunting I'd be able to do!  It was still great to get out there and hunt.  Who knows when I'll be able to get after them again but hopefully in a few weeks.

Well, maybe I'll be able to work up some loads for that 270 now, lol.
