Evening fellas >> Have the opportunity to get into one of these at a local shops here. They're asking $335. It's called a "hunter" model and has what appears to be a very long barrel for a semi-auto handgun. I've no measurements on length. It just looked long. Does anyone have info. on this make of weapon? Quality? Accuracy? Is the price right? Any help and/or info. appreciated. >> klallen |

I went and put the thing on lay-away yesterday. I know I'll never last that long, but $35 down and $30 for the next 10 months shouldn't break the bank. Always wanted a 10mm and this seemed as affordable a means as any to get something of relative quality. After a little digging, the only complaint I ever heard about the things was feeding problems, which all said was an easy fix with a little fine tuning. Very interested to see what the 7" barrel (you were right, NH) offers in performance. Anyway, with the lay-away, I guess I've got a little time to round up all the reloading supplies needed. >> klallen |

KL: Is that IAI as in Israeli Arms? From what I have heard everything they make is good quality. Maybe I'm wrong but there pistols are based on the Colt 1911 for some and the CZ designs for others. Hard to go wrong with either of those. I think the 10mm has a loyal following. Colonel Cooper for one. And wasn't the FBI hot on the 10mm for a while? I think the only reason it got pushed to the side was the popularity of the .40 S&W (which is essentially the same thing, I guess). I think feeding problems with hollowpoints are common with lots of auto pistols and a bit of polishing of the feed ramp takes care of that. The 1911 was designed for FMJ ammo not hollowpoint for example. So you have a dealer that has a 10 month layaway program? Would you mind sharing the name? |

Klallen; I very much suspect that what you've put on layaway is a variant of the old AMT. In which case, somewhere on it, it will have the Irwindale California name. Flat stainless, looks like a 2nd cousin to a 1911 pattern? I think that IAI in this case stands for Irwindale Arms Inc. If that's so, run - don't walk away. If they won't give you the $35. back, that's OK too. You'd spend much more than that for Excedrin if you bought it. 900F |

IAI and AMT are the same pistol for all practicable purposes, serial number ranges "IAI Javelina J008xx AMT was sued out of existence by Ruger and a problem with the 380 backup, they made a fairly good auto pistol and had a good following. I have a S&W 610 in 10MM I shoot in competition, works well for me.

Hi fellas >> Seems like this 10's got more questions attached to it than I'm usually comfortable with. 'Spose I'll plug ahead anyway. I've had two smiths look at the thing and both say that from a visual check, all looks to be in real good condition. Feeding problems that may exist would be all to easy to correct. One smith had personal experience with an IMI 10 similar to mine. He said if he'd have known it was at the store before me, he'd have snatched it up himself. Guess I'll give it a whirl and live with the consequences. It is a nice looking outfit. At least it's got that going for it . Data says it should be 200 - 250 fps faster than my .40 S&W with same weight bullet and barrel length. Curious to see what a full 7" of barel will offer. Was looking at components today. Guess I'll have to find time to squeeze a couple handguns inbetween rifles, with load development. SLUGGO, the 10 month lay-away is at a local shop called Big Bear. It is kinda convenient for those real high end teasers. They just put two .500 S&W Magnums out a couple days ago. I playing around with the idear of $89.99 down, $80 a month for 10 but they're doing some sort of drawing for the thing. If it were a 1st come, 1st serve type of thing, I'd have done it. Not interested in testing my luck at the drawing. In time, they'll have one for me. Held that bugger and it don't feel all that much heavier than my scoped Super RedHawk .454 Casull. I do want one of them. Anyway, thanks for all opinions and info. Much appreciated. >> klallen |
