Form the meat into patties about 1-inch thick and dip in flour. Brown the patties in olive oil - get the pan really hot first. You want the patties to really sizzle.

Remove the pan from the heat and sprinkle onion soup mix over the top of the meat.

Dilute 1 cup tomato sauce with 1/2 cup water and mix well. Drizzle the mixture over the patties taking care not to flush off the soup mix. Fully cover the meat. Don't submerge the patties - leave about 1/4-inch of "freeboard". You might need more or less sauce depending on the amount of meat and the size of the pan.

TIGHTLY cover the pan (if you don't have a lid) with foil - pinch down the edges.

Cook at 325-degrees for 2-1/2 to 3-hours.

You can add in raw onions, peppers, or whatever suits your taste. I wouldn't add any spices since the soup mix should handle it.
