Walleyes are good.
Last year when on a big fishing trip, shore lunch every day, walleyes and Northern Pike. Lots of fresh fish every noon. On the 3rd day we all voted for just Northerns for lunch...they were great. Walleye isn't bad, actually good, but Northerns are better. Hatcher trout is the poorest tasting!

" but Northers are better."
But only from cold clear waters! I will a agree a fresh caught Pike along shore are VERY Good. I have got them however, when the water get around 70* and there very soft and muddy tasting to me, where as a walleye are still firm and very active then. AND yes trout and Salmon suck

Agree, fish that are like mush don't taste good. that is why hatcher trout taste poor. Firm is good.
Salt water fish are usually good because they are wild. Farm salmon are only good for fertilazer!

I agree Bear
When we could fish in Canada we had fresh Northern most nights. I couldn't tell them from the walleye we caught. After they had been frozen I could tell a slight difference. Wing master

Key to pike is fileting they to get every one of those 'forked' bones out of the eating.
Can't book a lodge in Canada this year.....corona Hoax has it all closed.

Yes, The "Y" bone. The guide at the camp we went to could fillet them blindfolded I think. I went up there at least 5 times with my dad. I don't remember finding more than a few bones over the whole time.
I'm pretty sure my Canadian fishing days are over, but it would be nice if they woke up and opened up the border. Wing master

Our shore lunches lasst trip were LARGE. Way more than the 4 fishermen and 2 native guides could eat...and I tried to make sure no fish was left over!
But the guides dumped the grease and left-overs on the ground as we pushed off the boats. within 10 seconds, large black bears would appear within 10 yards for the goodies.

This time of year on the river vertical jigging dead Minnows.
It can be very productive. All the big spawning females go back in.

I find slow drift with a white lead head jig with a white mister twiste is good. Ad a dead shiner, better. add a live shine great.
Sometimes a white bucktail works as good. Really big 'eye I use a 13 jointed Rapala, trolled about 1.5 mph. slip sinker to keep it in the bottom 18 inches. blue and white or orange if in shallows. edge of weed beds is good.

I'm thinking fish fry grease might be the next sardine sandwich of bear hunting.

Might work. Also thinking, I usually go for the day and take a light lunch. Maybe my backpacking stove and a half pound of bacon would be tasty. cook 2 strips every hour????????????????
