Today, with stores closed and stock down, I am buying more on the internet. About a year ago found a scope I like and it was on sale at Natchez, so bingo, I bought it.

Now I got a new rifle and wanted to use that scope..So unpacked it and OUCH, it is a First Focal Plane scope with BD cross-hatching and dots.  The internet site just don't give the full/correct info.

With an FFP scope, the reticle changes size as the scope magnification goes up in power.  Just like my 1960s scope.  These make poor hunting scopes as to be usable they make the cross-hairs very, very fine at top power  I sort of like a 1/4 MOA crosshair at all distances.

FFP are sort of the present fad with the spray n pray group.

I'll just make do.  The rest of the scope is fine.

Spent 6 hours trying to find rings, The CZs are difficult.  but few sites tell how high the rings are.  Even Brownell's and Leupold sites were worthless.

Moral.  Read close, then do multiple searches, then try to contact the mfg for, hopefully, a true answer

What kind of scope is it?

I'm like you. I prefer second focal plane reticles. I guess in a dedicated target gun a FFP might be ok but I don't have a dedicated target gun.

CZ-455FS in 22 mag.  this is my walk around groundhog and coyote rifle, so will usually be on 6x.  sometimes at crows over 150 yds more magnification is good.

Scope is a Weaver Grand Slam  4-16x  44mm  with side focus and EBX reticle..Box and instruction doesn't mention FFP!

I think the one thing about FFP systems is that you can use it on any magnification with the built in "rangefinder" or "hold dead on"system. With 2FP it has to be on a single power the scope folks designed it to be "ON" using that system. So Bear, you are right in that it isn't needed for hunting most times.
