Moving around isn't my best thing, these days.  But planning on hunting local for turkey, not real remote areas.  So I borrowed a 28 ga shotgun, thinking it would be somewhat quieter than my 20s or 12s.

Got a box of shells  #5........ONE OUNCE!   my 20 ga loads are usually 7/8.

An impressive round.  wonder why it isn't more popular?  Especially with the dove and rabbit guys.

I like my 28ga   o/u but it still makes "noise" when fired.
Noise won't matter if you kill the bird first shot!Approve

Like the .410, it has a cult following but by all means ammo is rare. I carry a .357 with snake shot for brush doodles and even that is rare. It realistically only takes one BB to kill a turkey. Pellet gun is all that is needed. Most guys can't take that kind of a shot or refuse to. Turkey head rarely stays still long enough for a good shot so it's a field shot, instinctive. Inside 25 any skeeter gun will do the job with a full choke. That head doesn't wobble that much too miss it.

What distances are you expecting?

Here, A .22 Magnum is legal for Turkey. That might be a quieter option.

Rifle is only allowed in fall season here. Generally the only time I will go after them. Springtime they walk around the back of the house and scratch around in the veg and flowers keeing me awake when I should be sleepin. I quit sleepin with the windows open mainly to keep all the stinkin lady bugs out but also to keep from reaching out and strangling the feathered bas*&^%$!

I always figured if Savage would have gotten the weight and accuracy down on the 24 it would have done so much better.

Have a Spanish AYA Matador 12ga dbl bbl 28" F&M. Low end of their line but a nice gun in its own right. Not used much as I lean towards 20ga mostly but slip into 28ga at times.
