Taking the grandson and SIL camping fri night and gopher shoot on sat, be back in time for Mother's Day.
He's been using open sighted single shot 22rf, for couple years. I've moved him up, scoped marlin 22 semi, few weeks ago, last week I cut stock down 3" for him. He's pretty deadly inside 40-50yds, off bench, last Sunday I had him using tripod. Hopefully we can find some dumb ones, that'll give him time to set up, with 50yds or so. He's been trying to get red squirrels, around here, but can't shoot at them, in the trees, with 22. He's got one and close couple times, ground squirrels/gophers are easier and slower, so I bet he gets few.

Dang that sounds fun.
How old is he?
In MT they can hunt deer at 10 with a Mentor.
The GD and I are going to go on an overnighter As soon as school is out. Going to scout out some places WAY up north/east for prairie dogs.
She is going to try deer this year and I have to get her on some trigger time...
Good luck it looks like the weather gods will be smiling on you both.

Oldest Grandson is 8yrs old, youngest is 2 1/2. I'll start the youngest on pellet rifle, this summer, about same age as started oldest. Oldest grandson comes over most Sundays, for a plinking session. Recently SIL started dropping him off, on way to work and I bring him back to their house, in time for lunch. It works better, only having one supervisor, less stressful on everyone. I'm trying to get oldest in 4H shooting program, they can do BB gun @ 8yrs and air rifle position @ 9-10yrs.

Time for six-gun practice.

Besides camping he got to build fire, whittle hot dog roasting stick, stay up til near 11pm, before putting out fire, got up next morning, started his day with first cup of coffee, with breakfast. After hunt, he got to start second fire, roast couple more dogs for lunch, put out fire, clean up camp and then shoot 22rf revolver (just like in cowboy movies) for first time, loading and unloading (with help and lots of supervision).

Y’all have fun! Wish I was there too...but have too many chores. One day I’ll find time to have some fun again in warm weather too.

That's awesome Robert. teaching your Grandkids about the outdoors. And the best part is I didn't see an electronic device in any of your pictures.
