JUST a little.
In the 6mm that is.
We are loading Nosler ballistic  tip with Superformance.
In my 26" barrel I get right at 4200 fps, but that is "Maxed" out.
Please don't try that at home.
I'm a speed freak and really not worried about barrel life.
This load shoots under an inch at 200 yards and practically in one hole at 100, almost no way to improve that.
BUT it's fun to experiment, and gives me a reason to pull the trigger.
We are looking at Varget and a listed load just under 3900 fps out of a 24" platform. A few other powders will put me in to the same ish area. I really don't know what I'm looking for but I'll know when I find it.Wink

For years, I was a spped demon.  I invented P+ loads in 1961.  loved shooting 60 grain 6mm bullets.

Then i got old.  then older!

Today accuracy is all that matters to me; AND I really have some favorite rifles that I don't want to burn out.

Varget works good in my 6-08and my 6.5-08.

For years I was a 4064 IMR guy, worked good.  so many powders work well in mid-sized cartridges.

Many reloading books caution that "fastest ie: most fps are not necessarily the most accurate loading but can be in some calibers. However, retained "fast" out at LONG ranges can help keep impact energy of the boolet UP a bit. So, I guess finding a good compromise "fast" for your loading of any given caliber is what to seek. Most hunters probably don't shoot 'nuff to wear out a bbl anyway.....but "speed freaks" could.Approve

I'm shooting "FAST" now and get under an inch at 200 yards.
That's real good in my mind.
I was just thinking about ware and tear on the junkyard gun and
and thinking about a little slower and maybe STILL get that kind of performance.

Have you tried going with heavier bullet, with better BC? You could both extend barrel life and long range performance in wind.

high velocity really contributes nothing to acuracy.

But high velocity usually means a fuul case of powder.  I've found that best accuracy comes when my case is full even slightly compressed.  So I pick a powder that fills the case and has a moderate velocity.

Bullet seating is a BIG factr in accuracy, and extending the bullet out to almost touch the lands helps much.  But it also increases the powder capacity of the cartridge.   juggling all the time.

Form what we have found, we shoot a LOT of Barnes bullets in MANY calibers and weights, they like a bit of "jump".
No Idea why, so we normally start ay Sammy lengths .

the Barnes are copper, very soft.  they usually take more powder compared to GM jacketed bullets as they are less friction in the barrel.  the 'jump' maybe to get some pressure build up.

I use to load them for my bro', but he finally came to realize they were putting too much copper coating in his Weatherby Mark5 416 wea mag.  African guides love them because they behave like solids, guides there hate expanding bullets.  I guess Americans are in love with expanding bullets?????

I've found 70-80grBT work best in the various 6mm I shoot. I bet if you shot a 70grBT @ 3,400fps or so, you'd be happy with it's performance.

80 gr loads in the Lyman book suggest best accuracy comes with  about 40 grs of Varget and gives a velocity of 3350 fps.

I've found the Lyman's best accuracy loads to be very good.

Well We tried some "Slower" loads, same bullet different powder
"Big game"
book speed around 3900 fps, to cold to mess with the Magnospeed.
No wind , for Mt, and -14* , 200 yards, prone in the snow.
First target is test with normal 4200 fps load .

Second is with the slower "Big game" powder.

Then there is a silly rabbit that came to a shooting range.

about 30 yards to the right ,right at the same range.
