Seems PA released 250000 pheasants and my boy and his buddy from work got into them first thing this morning. Somehow they forgot to invite me,(day sleeper except for hunting). Apparently limited out in the first 15 minutes and went back and finished their coffee before it got cold. They said they flushed over forty on the way out as they took the long way around the field to the truck. Kinda takes the fun out of it when it's over with so fast.

On guy that eworks nights, follows the stocking truck during the days.  The PA stocked birds are just all dumped in one place on public lands (saves working for the stocking crew).  Since they are pen raised they tend to stay in a 'clump'.

Not surprising at this method...dumb, just like most Game commision plans.

Birds do taste good!

It might not be as much fun to be finished that fast, but it sure is fun to see that many birds in a short time. I bet they had a great time. And got to drink hot coffee. Congratulations to them.

I had that happen one time. I usually hunt solo so I only had a 3 bird limit. I had both of my German Shorthairs and we walked across a field. about the time we turned 90* to walk down one dog went on point. I shot that bird and when Iris retrieved the bird she usually waited around for a minute for me to praise her. This time she dropped the bird about 10 feet in front of me and turned around and ran a little way and went on point again. I started walking to her and looked over and Heidi was on point. I went to Heidi and shot that bird and as soon as she retrieved it I went to Iris and shot her bird. I was done hunting.

We stayed in that area and I let them point birds for about 10 or 15 minutes scattering the birds.

It was fun but i had a hard time getting my two dogs back to the pickup. I kinda felt bad for them too. That was the happiest I ever saw those two dogs.

Nice story jsg....here when they stock they do it in the AM and no hunting until noon in that area. The dates for stocking are posted I think so folks know what areas to look for the pheasants. The theory is the birds maybe will disperse B4 the hunters get started at noon.
