First of all, I would like to thank all of the participants of the 2018 postal shoot.

I received the last target on Monday the 23rd of July.

The entrants were (in no specific order)

Bear

Ray Sendero

RobertMT

and Wing master

I opened the envelopes one at a time scoring the target before opening the next envelope.

The scores are as follows.

Wing master:  47 with one X

Ray Sendero: 48 With two X

Bear: 49 with one X

And our winner and still champion (at least since I've been judging) Robert MT with the winning score of 50 with four X

I would also like to add that Bear wins the honorable mention award for shooting the dog in the logo on the target.

Excellent shooting guys. I am very impressed with every target.

I have always considered myself to be quite the bullshitter, But ocasionally it is nice to sit back and listen to a true professional......So, Carry on.

I thought that was a deer.

You can donate the prize money to BSB site.

Thanks everyone, for extending deadline, I got busy and didn't get it shot, until last minute.

Oh. I  looked at it again. I guess it looks like a older man with a kid? the kid is holding a gun and the man is behind him. Oh well, I still think Bear gets an honorable mention for the shot.

I should have waited, but I already dropped your prize money in the mail box. Sorry about that Robert.

Thanks again for entering the postal shoot and your offer to donate your winnings.

You mean Bear shot person in logo, well seems like according to rules.

"Bonus bragging rights, sixth shot @ deer in NSSF logo, in bottom center? Hit either person in logo, subjects you to razing."

I'll just do paypal to site for the $20.

Anyone up for another postal? Same target 200yds? 300yds?
22lr 50yds offhand?

The one shot per target, seemed to make it harder, to shoot and easier to score, than shooting group, on one target

I was thinking same rules/taeget but:

only military bolt guns  OR

heavy rifles only (.348 or bigger and 200 grains) OR

30-30 lever guns only  OR

pistols.

338wm is biggest rifle, I own. I could do that, with as light as 200gr.

I don't have any Military bolt or lever guns.

I don't have any pistols, with optics, but I could do same target @25yds pistol, open sights or larger target @ 50yds open sights revolver. I'm not sure if I could pick up, that size target @ 50yds with open sights. Seems like we did pistol a few years ago with ram or hog target? It could've been 22lr pistol though?

Pistol, one handed or two handed? unsupported or off bags?

My random thoughts on this shooting contest subject inspired by Ray Sendero's post of .22LR guns for a new postal shoot idea.

Rough draft of an idea.............

How 'bout duel/same caliber guns contest with two guns, one long gun and one handgun

It can be done with .22LR rimfire guns & appropriate target distance based on caliber for each firearm....IE: maybe 50yds for rifle and 50ft for handgun in .22LR for example.

Use either iron sights* or scopes however both guns must wear same type sights in this situation.
*iron sights can be open or peep/tang type

Two Classes:
Semiauto Class......long gun and handgun shoot, separate targets for each firearm type but scores combined to get the winner......with both guns same type sights....either scopes or irons here.

Manual Class....long gun (ie bolt or pump or lever long gun) and handgun (ie revolver here or single shot) same target rules and sight rules as semi auto class.

Rules for gun rests, slings, one hand or two for handguns, etc can be worked out if any interest in this type of contest.

Let's hear from all you BSBers on this!

sounds good IBD.  thanks for the ideas, we need more from folks that might want to participate.

but before we get multiple classes we need to get MORE shooter participants.

The latest postal shoot had few participants.

I think maybe the K.I.S.S.  rule needs to be applied to get some broad based interest?????

Thinking Pistol @ 50 yards?

same as last shoot except 22 rifle?

BP maybe?

200 yard CF?

We need shooters....
what do lots of   people want  to participat in???

.30 cal at 1026yds., best 5 of 10 offhand, same target.
.22LR at 600Yds., best 5-10 offhand irons

I actually don't have a rimfire revolver or auto.
...oh yeah! thats gonna hurt!

Jsg.....
How big would the bullseye need to be at 1026yds for what .30 cal to hit it offhand?????

I wonder what the DROP would be for a .22LR mv 1250 fps for a 600yd target?

Big target, a lot of drop.

I'm in with whatever you guys want to do.

I have access to a range that goes out to a mile, but the range I usually go to (close to my house) only goes out to 200 yards. I have a few hand guns and a few rifles but my biggest rifle caliber is 30 cal.

I'm not sure if we all have a hand gun with a scope (I don't) and my old eyes can't see iron sights on a rifle as good as I could a few years ago.

Outside of those limitations, I should be able to come up with a way to enter any postal shoot we can come up with.

Also,

If you look back at the scores on the previous postal shoots you will see a trend starting. Wing master is always in last place.

I propose a new rule that Wing master gets to cut the distance in half. LOL

12x18 at 1026, makes it interesting
22lr at 600 yrds. right around 82" depending on tube legth and ammo. Calm day with some of the 22's you guys have posted groups of, 6-8" from a rest should be easy enough to achieve, but off hand any in the rings is mighty fair shooting for irons. For those who scratch your head at this think 2 seconds of flight and a bullet that loses little velocity compared to it's centerfire cousins. After a couple boxes of ammo it becomes addicting to wait for the ding on gongs.

If we go the AR route, the Cooper challenge is a good one but we can stretch it too a minute and optics allowed to make it a fair bit more open to takers. My old eyes could sure use the optics at that range anymore.

IBD, center mass targets give you roughly 12x18 of a torso hit, so pretty much anything outside of that is a miss anyways. I left it as just .30 caliber as I doubt we all have the exact same cartridges available. This leaves it open for the guys with .30 Herrett to 30-30 to 300UM etc. Same size hole at that range just different drops. I find painting a 4' x4' sheet of plywood orange or white depending on the lighting with the target centered works well enough. Easy enough to see the big target and then focus inward to what looks like a dot in the middle.

Also fun if you have access to iridescent dyes is a mannikin torso filled with the dye. Get to go full zombie-apocalypse at the range! Used IV bags from a hospital or clinic are great! Those twilight shots are a good lesson in low lighting.....also very gratifying.

I can't do the 1026 offhand, but I'll do 1,000yds off a bench, with either .243, 6.5mm or .308

22lr @ 600yds requires 100MOA of elevation, I'll go for same target 22lr 300yds, from a bench. If you want to go to 400yds, with 22lr, go to 25yd pistol target and I'm in with scope, I can get the 50moa elevation needed.

interesting, but from a practical point we might want to keep it to 200 yards as most people don't have easy access to 1000 yds or evem 300 yards.  we want more shooters, not less.

Fair enough. Paper punching for some reason always puts me to sleep though so I come up with things I find challenging. Started with clothes pins at 25 yrds. Snuff cans, sporting clays, etc. Pistol and 22's at first., just kinda gets away from me at times.

We could use same target @100yds, 22lr. I would propose same rules, with one exception.

Use official targets, signed by judge and mailed out to be shot. You would mail your target request and entry fee, to judge and he would, mail your targets back.

Targets two for $10, five for $20, (plus $1 per request, for postage and printing costs (with $.50 postage and $.10 per copy, these add up)) you can buy as many chances, as you want, you send in your best.

You could print your own practice targets, but only signed ones, would be judged. Besides getting fee up front, encouraging more participation, it would encourage you to get it shot, since you already paid.

If you want more challenge, we could shoot it @200yds instead.
