I see the black buggers everywhere, even walking the roads! I don't normally hunt them in the spring.....but a thinning of the flocks wouldn't be a bad thing around these parts. Anyone else seeing the same thing or is it just in my area?

Wife and daughters are absolutely blind to anything not standing in the middle of the road and the past few days they have been pointing them out to me everywhere. Bunch of singles and doubles from flocks broken up yesterday, but the amount of complete flocks was just about even with the broken ones. Some of the bigger flocks are in the 40-70 plus members. All within 10 miles of my place. Quite literally numbers in the hundreds in any direction of my place. I have one small flock coming around my place that's all jakes with beards in the 3 inch range, no hens or big strutters, just jakes....weird!

Going out tomorrow to shoot a bird.......maybe?

Oh, TURKEYS! Ya, Western Montana is crawling with them. Up around Troy, Libby, and Eureka you're just as apt to hit one as a deer or elk.

Bear? You have a net?

Saw a coon so fat it wobbled as it walked and possums everywhere as well, feel free to help yourself! The bears are out and hungry and they keep getting well fed at the cost of my mothers birdfeeders. Seems when they don't get brought in every night, they aren't there in the morning. Got a mess of smallish porky-pines running around as well but we aren't allowed to whack the little buggers anymore.....

Buddy at work last night was looking a bit neek in the wees. Seems the birds were scarce but the ticks plentiful. Not sure if it was the three big bee sting looking welts or the antibiotics but it seems to have dampened his mood for the rest of the season. Said he had doused himself down with the permithrium.<--? However it's spelled, but it did little to stop them from nibbling.

ticks are bad, seems every year is a bumper crop.

Clothing treated with permethrin kill ticks as they travel across the fabric;  BUT more important it keeps them off; deterent.  It lasts weeks, but it needs to be heavily treated.  i lay out my wool pants  and shirt on the floor and spray the legs and seat heavily, letting them dry before wearing.  turning them over I do the other side.  I hunt turkeys from a folding chair; it is WAY more comfortable, AND less prone to ticks.  Most turkey hunters think it is COOL to sit on the ground....ticks love these guys, less to travel and pants leg treatment of Permethrin..

I buy Permethrin by the quart.  Often get it at Agawy, cow treatment size, Sawyers is also good but slightly more $

works good, but as added insurance I wash my hair and body with a Tea Tree oil soap (desert Essence).  The tea tree oil will cause any tick (or other vermin) to dislodge.  ticks usually need to be embedded 2-3 days to give you lymes disease.

I hate ticks.
