I built my reloading bench about 20 years ago. It started out in the basement and about 5 or 6 years ago I moved it out to my garage/shop.

My theory about any kind of work bench has always been that a smaller bench will collect less junk than a big one. So far this has worked and my reloading bench has really never had much of anything on it that I wasn't using at the time.

The problem is that since then I have added 2 more presses and a few other tools that I don't leave screwed down to the bench. I screw them down when I am using them and take them off when I am not using them. And I have presses on 3 different benches.

Now, I am thinking I need to build a new bench. I want to plan it out ahead of time (I never do that).

My biggest question is. What do you use for a bench top for your reloading bench? I have thought about sanded ply wood or I have seen formica counter top material in the clearance section of Home Depot. Is their something that would work better?

Could you post a picture of your bench?

Just needing ideas. Thanks

Thoughts:

IIRC< CB's brnch was made of 4x4" lumber on edge and glued/bolted together, then he had it planned/sanded by a pro, stained and poly coated.  very strong and good looking.

A.Bear used two pieces of 3/4" plywood that he glued together and held with 1" drywall screws from the bottom.  again sanded and poly coated. Very, very Strong.  his bench is uniquely curved to fit perfectly in his man cave.

I had one that I built from 2x4" oak (70 year old stuff, trrue 4").  Had to give it away, too big when we sized down housed.  New bench is 1x8" with a thin steel sheet top.

I like BIG long 24" deep reloadding benches.

I always bolt presses down with fende washers underneath.

Because I'm cruel and don't sleep much, this'll keep you busy. Unfortunately many photos have fallen victim to photobucket.
