Rimfires have gotten outstandingly accurate over the last 10 years.
With the 22 LR, 22 Mag, 17 HMR and 17 wsr, do you think any or all would be OK for 'otes, considering range limitations?

Any thing will "Work" for killing coyotes.
My little GD shot a coyote with my 10/22 last year and killed it. It was only 25 yards away standing broad side and not moving. She was sitting on my lap and I told her to keep pulling the trigger till the clip ran out. She did and hit it like 4 out of ten shot. I have shot them running with the 17 rim fire and killed them dead, head shots. The boy uses exclusive anymore his 17 hornet , yes that is a center fire. I shoot a lot of them at under 50 yards with my 870 but. Long story short , there is a LLOOTT of luck involved to kill coyotes with a rim fire . SO I would say no a rim fire is not a good choice. I have no experience with the modern day Air guns and have seen a lot of articles and TV shows using them and they look promising.

I shot one of D's 12 gauge coyote loads at MYGAWDS one year. If they hit as hard at the muzzle end as they do at the stock end, they should kill a coyote at 50 yards.
When my son was in high school, he had a Remington .22 long rifle that he took out every weekend and a lot of nights after school. I'm not sure where he went and what all he did, but he came home with several coyotes over his 3 years in high school. I'm sure it wasn't the best choice, but he did get a few. Their is kinda a funny story about that. He had shot a coyote and leyed it on top of his tool box in the back of his pickup where it froze solid. When he got to school on Monday morning, he took the frozen coyote and stood it up on his tool box. He then went into school and told a few girls in his class that he brought his dog to school and it was in the back of his pickup if they wanted to go out and pet him. Sometime during the day, I got a call at work from an animal control officer. She said that Jake had a dead dog in the back of his pickup. I explained to her that he had been out coyote hunting and I was pretty sure that it was a coyote and not our family pet that froze to death in the back of his pickup. She then told me that according to city ordinance you have to dispose of dead animals within 48 hours or you could be fined. I assured her that it would be taken care of when school was out that night. Wing master

I'd think like D it might be lots tuffer to KILL a coyote with a .22 LR and lots of luck involved for a good shot placement. |
