In an earlier thread Robert mentioned Mini Mausers.

I have only seen a couple in my lifetime, but I like the guns. I'm not sure who made them but if I remember right Interarms imported them for a while. It also seems like Charles Daly did too.

Are these still made/Imported?

If so what calibers do they come in?

Are they good rifles?

Currently owned and operated/imported through Century arms/IMI. The bolts have always been sloppy on them, even the pre-WW2 originals. Came across a few early rimfires about 30 years ago and they were steep. Better bet is to get a youth model Ruger 77 and make what you want with a sturdier action in a small package.
...oh yeah! thats gonna hurt!

Might look at the CZ 527.  a close mauser style, super accurate.

comes in a dozen cartridges, I like the manlicher style stock but it comes in 8 versions.  generally nice wood.

Cooper makes model 21, Howa has micro action, CZ 527, ultralight's model 20 short, Remington used to make model 799, I believe it's now sold under Zastava name.

I believe CZ and Zastava are the closest to Mauser design and some others, are just micro versions of their short action.

Krico GMBH made some very close mauser mini.  After WW-2 they started out converting mauser 98 into sproting arms.  In the early1950s,   They  made  model 400s.  these  were mini in either 222 or hornet, great little rifles.  I hunted groundhogs with one in 22 hornet, wish I still had it.

I had one imported by Remington. You can still find a few NOS on gunbroker . Mine was in 7.62x39 , lamented stock horrible trigger , I reloaded for it I reworked and glasses the stock , I did everything under the sun if you could get a consistent 3” group you were lucky . At time I thought it was me , but no one could make that thing shoot , if I was smart I would have re-barreled it .

I had a Zastava M85 Mini Mauser chambered in 7.62x39. It was a very nice rifle but sold it about 30 days ago. Killed a bunch of feral hogs with mine. The rifles had a walnut stock with no finish but lent itself very well to Tru-Oil so you were up and running in a couple of days.

They do have an adjustable trigger, here are the instructions I received from the Zastava Warranty Smith in the USA:

A. There are two adjustment screws at the front of the trigger and two more at the back.
1. Front of trigger:
a. Lower Screw: Used to compensate for wear in safety, bolt, trigger slop with the safety engaged. Adjusted by turning screw CW until trigger movement is eliminated with the safety on.
b. Top Screw: Adjusts weight of pull. Turn CCW to decrease trigger pull. Will adjust down to approx. 2lb pull.
2. Aft trigger:
a. Lower Screw: A stop or overtravel adjustment. To adjust for minimum over travel, start with the bolt closed, the striker in the fired position. Turn CW all the way in, then back off 1/8th turn.
b. Top Screw: Sear engagement adjustment screw. Used to adjust for minimum sear engagement. Start with Bolt closed, action cocked, safety off. INSURE CHAMBER IS EMPTY AND BARREL POINTED IN SAFE DIRECTION (A "dummy" round can be used). Turn adjusting screw CW until sear releases, then back screw off (CW) 1/4 turn.

B. Safe Testing:
1. After making any trigger adjustments and VERIFYING THE CHAMBER IS EMPTY AND MUZZLE IS POINTED IN A SAFE DIRECTION, aggressively close the bolt several times to check for striker fall and add more sear miss-engagement if needed.
2. The stock butt should be tapped on the ground several times as well after VERIFYING THE CHAMBER IS EMPTY AND MUZZLE IS POINTED IN A SAFE DIRECTION.Firing pin activation is not acceptable in either test. If a failure is experienced, proceed through the adjustments to verify a positive safety activation.

The 7.62x39 with non-surplus, premium ammo (factory or handloads), has been a great whitetail and hog rifle here on my ranch in South Texas. I don't think the 7.62x39 is available in the US anymore, but it is still listed as an active offering on the Serbia website.

I just ran across an interesting deal on the Howa Mini-Mauser 7.62x39 on Wittaker Gun's website; $350 shipped to your FFL. I have the Savage 10 FCM Scout chambered in this cartridge but the Wittaker offering is very tempting! I believe all the Howa Mini chambering offerings are at this price, but I have not checked. The Howa has better reviews than the Zastava.
