I want to start with an apology, I thought I posted this here, but must be it was just the handloaders bench, so to those who are not on that forum...
I had a great trip to Montana earlier this month. Me and one of my best friends left Williamstown, NY early Saturday Nov 4th and pointed the truck west. We arrived in Medicine Lake, MT to a balmy 10deg. Brian (buddy mentioned earlier) has made this trip several times, this his 5th yr, hunting birds and waterfowl. This year he asked me to go and we applied for a deer tag, I drew one, he didn't. He was very familiar with the Med Lake area, but we were looking for Mulies and we didn't see many so we set out with some tips from an acquaintance of his. We headed south across the Missouri and took to the back roads. We started to see deer right away, and spotted a monster mulie buck, just off the BMA. Finally we came upon this guy with another smaller buck and a dozen or so does. A short stalk and a 117yd shot from my Browning 284 and I had my first mule deer and first western big game animal! We were/are over the moon. No guide, no outfitter, just 2 guys with maps and a full tank of gas. We hunted birds for the remainder of our time out there arriving back home in the early morning hours of Tuesday the 14th...4925mi later! Had a great time in one of the 2 most beautiful states in the union (of the 30 or so I have been to) |
